Re: Box survives vote of no confidence : Sun Sep 23, 2018 11:57 pm
The vote of confidence by show of hands was likely at Box's insistence in the belief members would be intimidated and not vote against him. Chances are that a secret vote would have resulted in a far heavier defeat and a result he could not survive. The suggestion that Jeffries might be more than ready to leap into his shoes just shows the level of loyalty! Maybe that last bit should be termed otherwise!

Given that it says the vote was 5-3 then expect another couple to follow him out of the door!!!

Cant believe that they go for the "show of hands" rather that a secret ballot.
If the coup fails, those that voted against are stuffed.

Which is exactly why Box went for the "show of hands". I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Box was behind the whole thing to see who he can trust to do his bidding and who he needs to get rid of!

Most Labour Councillors just do as Box commands or they get their perks taken away from them, expenses in certain roles are worth £ 30 k plus a year. Box only appoints those who do his bidding without question to those positions. So for some Labour Councillors to opening defy Box is most unusual.

I've no idea how the council votes are chosen or the thoughts of the chairman, but I'm pretty sure most of you don't either.
Try and stick to the facts or opinion, rather than stating your opinion as a fact. You know how it works.

Whilst I’m unsure about the specifics of the role, does anyone else sense any irony of a Councillor who has the portfolio for culture, leisure & sport for the area calling for a vote of no confidence in someone else?!?
