It was a good game. I thought we looked good when Brough was on. Kirmond hasn't been put through a gap like that since Smith left. Thought Max had a really good game at fullback. Our pack is massive. Both Kopczek and King are bigger than I remember. Crowther put in some monster kits in first half.
It was pretty even first half. When we changed around we lost momentum and Hull had most of the ball but we tackled them out on our line for 4 straight sets which was great. We looked well drilled. We won in the end because our reserves were better than theirs. No indication how a real game would go but I'm feeling good for the season.
Indeed it wasn’t far off a complete substitution of an entire team in the second half in parts - I call that impressive.

Agree with this, especially Jowitt at FB - pretty close to 10/10 and he looks a better FB than Rocky, although Hampshires solo effort to secure the game was sublime, pace, step, balance, just superb.
Really difficult to gauge anything about either side from the game though, other than it appears that we have more depth to our squad than Hull, who, without Kelly (after he went off) lookes pretty clueless with ball in hand, although they maintained possession for the vast majority of the second 40.
Assuming that we start the London game with Miller and Brough in the halves, either Jowitt of Hampshire are going to be unlucky, although having someone like hampshire on the bench would be a great asset albeit unlikely if both Wood and Randall are fit.
And how many options do we have in the forwards ??

Hull had about 9 first teamers not playing so I would actually say their squad depth is pretty good

Talanoa, Tuimavave, Griffin, Sneyd, Green, Bowden, Manu, Minichiello and Westerman. So that's 9 guys who you would expect to be in the first choice 17. Also Beinek didn't play. He isn't a first teamer but he is higher in the pecking order than a few who did play yesterday.
Wasn't at the game yesterday, but from what I have heard, seen and read, I am quite happy with what we did, and I think both sides will be up at the right end of the table.
Jowitt - Looked solid and had really good game, still think that he might miss out though due to the extra dimension in attack that Hampshire brings. Brough - great timed pass for Kirmo to score, shocking penalty kick for touch given the wind. Kopzcak - Ran the ball well and looks a really good addition to an already really strong pack. Reynolds - Did OK but definitely behind Brough, Miller, Hampshire and possibly even Woody in the half back pecking order. Baldwinson - Didn't get a lot of game time but showed up well while he was on with a couple of strong runs
All in all, another good run out and things look pretty positive for the start of the season. I expect the Gateshead game will be a run out for a few more of the fringe players and then a stronger line-up back in for Huddersfield.
Chester is going to have some tough decisions to make on the forwards though and the make up of the match day squad with plenty of quality to choose from.

On that basis, Radford will be far happier than Chester, although, you can never tell quite what the true picture is. Those who are confident of a starting place when SL starts, just want some game time and fitness, the fringe players try to impress, as do any youngsters who just want to get noticed by the coach.
A good hit out for both teams to be fair, and thought it was a pretty even contest over all.
Think we started, and ended the game very well, but in between struggled a bit at times. Thought we looked really lively when Brough was on, but never really got going in the second half in the same way, albeit a few breaks from deep.
Yeah If I had to describe in a few words how we went, we started each half and finished each half well but in between, we were a bit disjointed, although defended well at times.
The reason for the disjointed look was down to a number of silly penalties on the 5th tackle and a lot more dropped ball than hull. Our ball retention put us under so much pressure along with discipline.
