Chastising players rightly or wrongly through the press, has that ever worked?

Seriously duff move from Chester. Doesn’t matter how accurate the Star is, he lit the blue paper and it had to end in tears.

Tragic Trinity have returned.

Correct The last press release by chester was the final straw for many players. There have been weeks of snide remarks about them over this season and it was obvious that eventually there would be a response.

Chris Chester is probably a decent bloke but he has spent his life in rugby league. Players are also people. He probably knows more about playing the game than most . However his ability to deal with people is very limited. You need a totally different skill set to do that and a life playing rugby league will not give you that. That is why good coaches are few and far between. People just think a person will make a good coach because he was a good player and can lead a team on the field. However it dosnt end there because a coach must be a good people manager and that is probably the most difficult part of the job.

Time to go Chris, just accept you are not up to it. You have probably tried your best but failed.

Its a very serious situation and MUST be addressed.
I appreciate everything MCs done but have often disagreed with many of the public statements hes made .
The clubs more important than a bunch of behind the back statement blowers and a coach that seems unable to unite and motivate a squad.
Just a couple of things need to cleared up and questions asked.
! how can the club clear out a number of players all at one time before the start of the new season
2 how do you replace the players fired or moved on. .
3 does chester remain in the position to oversee the above,
4 Should a new coach be given the opportunity to unite the squad and make signing.
5 Should MC continue
The quality of the new additions to the squad are poor , we do however have a squad that have performed well in the not too distant past .
Some players who performed well in the past have hit rock bottom is that down to coaching and fitness or have they had their day.
Its going to be an interesting time but the club need to sort it out either by a joint statement or 2 separate statements from both parties.

I couldn't agree more here.

There is now no way back at a for Chester, and he needs to go.

If Carter isn't willing to make that call, then I feel that John Minards has to step in, and make that call for him, and as he his now a CEO, I think JM needs to have a serious heart to heart with MC. As he is a CEO, they are replaceable

Totally agree with this, seems like all the frustration is directed at Carter, yet Minards is also,i believe, joint majority shareholder along with Carter.

I think it's been pretty obvious for some time that there is disharmony between CC and the players!
For me this has been reflected in our on field performances.

Clearly, if CC has lost the dressing room as much as that he would be better replaced as head coach.
(Fil has a good solution, in an earlier post that would cost the club little, if it could be arranged for WP to be head coach with CC his assistant - but I doubt CC would want that!)

I am also of the opinion that the onfield performances are not solely down to bad coaching - there seems to be an ethos of rebellion displayed on the pitch by some players, and that is not how they should be reacting to their dislike of the coach. They have a duty to perform to their best for their employers and some of them haven't.
They need sorting as well.

Michael Carter is now officially CEO. John Minards officially chairman. So yes I suppose Minards out ranks Carter. But they are both equal share holders. I think you are right. The stumbling block is Carter and one of the main reason he wont sack chester is because it was his primary decision to give him a long contract and a ridiculously large salary. If he sacked him he could loose face and admit he made the wrong call with chester.

However Carter dosnt hold a share holding majority so he could be out voted by the other directors if the had the bottle to do so.

Forget trying to save money in the present situation, if Chester must go he should be paid up and more money made available for either a new head coach or assistant coach.
The club should get Poaching in now and see how the players respond over the next couple of games.

I wish everyone would read bramleyrhino's post two or three times just to get it through some thick skulls

From someone who is not a Trin fan, that's how I see it from the outside looking in.

Ask yourself whether you would be motivated to bust a gut for an employer that:
- Didn't exactly offer the best renumeration anyway, but at least you can accept that as a trade-off for potentially a 2-year deal instead of a 1-year one.
- Was one of the last to agree a post-COVID pay deal with the players union.
- After agreeing said deal, made a sinister public comment that "we will remember those that didn't work with us" to the press.
- Went on a fan's forum to belittle the concerns of a player who felt he needed to take a second job during the lockdown, arguing "I wish I earned what he did when I was 21" (despite that likely being 30+ years ago).
- Has seen the company named and shamed by HMRC for breaching minimum wage regulations.
- Has backed his coach as he spoke to the media about sacking players in the coming weeks.

Carter is free to run the club how he wants and he and Chester are free to treat the players how they want (within the law), but they aren't free to expect that doing so will come without consequences and I would argue that recent results are a consequence of those actions. You can talk about the player's "professionalism" and "getting on with it", but the club has a duty to ensure that the players feel valued and motivated. I've worked for people who display the sort of behaviours that Carter seems to do in public and if there is only one thing that they are universally good at, it is demotivating and driving good people out of a business - and business results suffer as a result.

From the outside looking in, Wakefield's problems aren't necessarily about a lack of talent - the much bigger issue is about a lack of respect for the players and a poor culture at the very top.

I don’t think any club owners should give in to player power. The club isn’t run from the dressing rooms. Players are paid to perform on the field. If the players won’t perform because they don’t see eye to eye with the coach, then those dissatisfied players should leave. How many of you on here would continue to work for an employer you detested?. If you continued to work for that employer, but your work ethos falls then your employer has every right to dismiss you. Sadly, this may be the case at BV, but professional players should perform on the field, and not be given control of the dressing room.
