Even if nothing comes of it, he is such a strike player opposition will natural rush to shut him down, which would open gaps in field where we struggle to make yards. The fact we don't shift it left often means the opposition can quite safely bunch in the middle and restrict our go forward.

It’s inexplicable that we don’t utilise him more and if it continues this season again like last, serious questIons need to be asked of the coaching staff.

One game in and its started already.

It's not like we are avoiding sending the ball to Tom.

We just dont often get it to him quick enough. The first try shows what we can do. Leeds were rushing in denying us yards but also bunched up, Miller saw the space Johnstone was in and got it to him with a cut out pass. Result, he skinned the Leeds backline. Jowitt and Johnstone seem to have a good understanding so maybe we could see it more when he returns.

Well it felt like that for most of last year! And anyway the reasons why he doesn't get enough ball are irrelevant, we have probably the best player we've had in Superleague we should be ensuring we give him as much ball as possible end of.

It doesn't work like that. If you just pass it to him at every opportunity the opposition will just line up in front of him.
If the forwards don't draw the players in to the middle or Lyne doesn't pull them to the right then you just make him an easy target.

I agree it needs to get to him but good ball not every ball.

Also, I've seen a few comments about his individual tries.
There is no doubt his individual skill made the try but the opportunity came because of his team mates skills, vision and effort.

The first came because our half backs decided to go for a play near their own line. Most don't do that. We gave him a one on one because of quick thinking and good quick passes.
The second just looks like individual skill but it is caused because Crowther ran the kicker down when everyone else was waiting, and managed to grab his shirt just as he was kicking. The kick went higher, giving TJ his opportunity.
It's not always just about Tom.

That would be a sure way of breaking him

Exactly, thus creating spaces elsewhere on the pitch. He's our strike weapon and is often chronically underused. Use him early and often and that gives the opposition something to think about.
