The context is nothing to do with creating a distraction from the poor performances but is due to the sporting-wide black-out of social media due to trolls and abuse, which the club joined in with. That context is obvious from the statement and it is MC giving an example of what it feels like to be confronted by it.
As for the comment itself, it was something said that was mindless and crass, he was called out on it and apologised. Sometimes, people talk on social media in the same way that they talk over a few pints but forget that the people they are having a go at can hear what they say. But MC is right, in that it is only a game and no member of staff (and we can all guess who it was aimed at) should have to read that someone is wishing their demise just because we have lost some rugby games.
The statement itself, however, was about the social media black-out, not something unilateral caused by the facebook comment.
