Can we not also be guilty of the same faults in respect of Corey Hall who has limited first team experience or is this different because he plays for us.
I think we all love seeing young players come through and are right to get excited about them, particularly when they make a big impact early on.
What we need to do is manage our expectations. All supporters want to see top young talent pulling on their teams shirt but as fans we also need to understand they will have bad days, or maybe even seasons after their initial impact. Young players are rarely as good as people tend to think when they make the initial impact or as bad as they sometimes become regarded as when they have a dip in form.
There are obviously some exceptions but the likes of Farrell, Sculthorpe, Ellis, Cunningham, Tomkins and Roby's are the exception rather than the rule.
I do think coaches and clubs need to be a bit more vocal about managing expectations of young players. Some make the odd passing comment on it however I think external pressures of promoting a young player in the hope it gets the club in the spotlight and maybe attracting some more fans can often over shadow this.
