To show ambition the club need to tie down Murphy imo. He’s a hot property and it would show a statement of intent if we can persuade him to stay. HKR have been doing this with their younger players and these are the kind of players you build a squad around. Obviously he’s nowhere near a 100k player yet but he’s worth investing in because his talent is unreal, I believe he’ll surpass Johnstone I honestly think he’s that good

So what would you do if he wants £100k to stay, if he isn't a £100k a year player yet?

can you remember Gareth Ellis ? he went to Leeds for less than he was offered at Wakey. With some players it can be more than money. I know we have offered a very good contract but he is not accepting it so it must be something we can't offer.

Plus does anyone honestly think he would turn us down if he had no other options on the table. Anyone who thinks Saints have not approached him is either under 4yrs old or living in cloud Cuckoo land. There is no way anyone can accuse MC or the club for not trying their utmost.

I still think Murphy owes us a little bit more, given the opportunity and support he's had from the club and the fans. If Saints offer blows us out of the water then there's little MC/JM can do, I just hope it's not marginal. We do suffer from Players Agents seeing us as a staging point and shop window.

Less then a year ago many of us were on SM telling the lad to keep his chin up, that we were all right behind him and to move on from that nightmare debut v Leeds. If only he'd slowed that improvement down a bit.

Martyn Sadler hasn't done us any favours by naming Murphy as "Albert Goldthorpe Rookie of the Year" in today's League Express either...that is likely to have upped his asking price even further

This is how I see it.
I just can't see that we have not made one of the hottest properties in SL a suitable offer.
So, perhaps he knows he has far more chance of playing for England and winning trophies with Saints than with us, and that's what it's about, not just money.
I just don't want a player bent on leaving, playing out the season. I'd rather cash in, and give one of the other lads who WANT to play for Trinity the chance.
All this of course is if the rumours are true!

We are not in a position to lose a player like Murphy. Why would a club buy him now he is out of contract at the end of the season and a club like Saints can wait, the situation may be different if they thought we had the ability between now and May to agree a new contract, I guess they don’t.
I regret the reality is that our squad is not strong or in the whole experienced, sorry but that is a fact even though some remain in denial. I have said before we need to survive, we have pushed our luck to a point that some on here believe we are immune to relegation we are not. We can continue on a Championship budget but our chances to progress would be fatally flawed.
