I can't see how anyone can describe SoL as anything other than a great player - when he is on the pitch, Wigan are several levels better; I don't view him how I view Roby though, because of his nasty antics - he's very talented, but he's also a grub and a cheap shot merchant.

Anyway - Brough - still a rumour!

Well a fair few have. Clearly a player that divides opinion. I don't mind that it's just that one side rather arrogantly assumes they are right and those who disagree are dullards - odd double standard isn't it

No they didn't mention it, they replied to a question to which they had to say something - not quite the same thing is it.

My opinion is not based on arrogance, but on comparisons with other loose forwards I have seen play.
He is a fine player no problem, but I just do not think he is as good as more modern players such as Farrell and Sculthorpe.
Then further back Reilly and Norton.
Then even further back Whitley, Turner and Karalius.
Seen ‘em all play for club and country and it’s just my opinion that all the aforementioned were superior.

As per the BBC website.....

Wigan have won four Super League titles, two Challenge Cups and a World Club Challenge under O'Loughlin's captaincy.

I think that says it all really.

I think SOL has been a good player and great club man throughout his career however I would not be putting him in the same league as the likes of Farrell no matter how many trophy's he has "Led" Wigan to throughout the years - Agree Wigan look better with him on the pitch, but we looked better with Liam Finn on the pitch last season and I would not be putting him down as a fantastic player.

I think sometimes as a sport we over-sell a players ability which is probably due to many years of Eddie and Stevo labelling your average joe`s as "World class" - One that particular sticks in my head is a few years back Stevo labelling Richard Horne "World class" as he once threw a half decent pass. One player I have never got the hype around is Micky Mac, the whole argument surrounding who was the better nine out of him and Roby really did have me baffled. Can we not just say a players a good player when they are a good player? If a Richard Horne is world class then where do we go for the likes of Thurston and Inglis?

Whatever people think about O'loughlin, they are arguing about how good he was at his peak. Those days are well and truly gone. The point I was making is that in my opinion he is no longer capable of playing RL at SL level and yet Wigan have given him a contract.

Where as Brough for all his sins and bad attitude, if signed, would be capabale of physically competing for at least one more season

Carrying on the correct logic, if you'd have offered me both players 8 years ago I'd have still taken Brough by a mile.
