Re: All Things New Stadium : Tue Mar 22, 2022 8:12 am
Unfortunately i am old enough to remember previous demolitions. South stand (replaced by a mound of sand for years). West Stand (after Bradford, and been an eyesore ever since).
Demolition has never been a problem for us in the past, but putting something up in its place most definitely has!.
I for one will certainly not be celebrating the demolition, until i see something better on the spot it once stood.

Lets all hope that it is the real deal this time.

Do you honestly think in this day and age that we will knock our only stand/bus shelter down without having everything ready?

I get your point regarding the South stand, an utter travesty but one committed in the days when many things were agreed with a nod and a handshake, and RL was a very shady business. I think you know the reason the West stand was demolished and that it had nothing to do with the club so not sure why you've thrown that in.

Secondly, surely by now, you are willing to accept that JM and MC are most definitely cross the T dot the I kind of people.

So I think you're being extremely negative. Sure the wheels could still fall off but that's a fact of life in general but I think we can muster a little more optimism than that, especially when as fans we should be trying to sell the club rather than cast a downer.

The consultant team is in place and pre con activities have been undertaken. The contractor has been appointed, in fact all the consultants and contractor were at the game vs Toulouse to enjoy the game and celebrate the progress. The money is in place and the scheme is good to go. The contractor Morgan Sindall are at an advanced stage of placing the order for key packages.

The only minor concern I have, and it is very minor is the spiralling cost of certain key materials such as steel for example which may require further value engineering. It is ironic that we wait all these years to get a new stadium and from a cost control point of view we are going to have to build it though what is basically a perfect storm of global issues which are driving inflation through the roof.

The cricket ground in Australia when it's on TV there is a great looking ground but then there is a old pavilion A bit like the old pavilion that we ad in the sixties on the west stand

This is true and unfortunate but pretty typical of our luck. I got the impression that we always had a little wiggle room built-in. The idea was I think that it could possibly be used later on to do a few 'extras' that were not in the main plans. Worst case scenario is that this money will now be swallowed up, in fact, I'm sure it probably will be. It's a shame because I was personally hoping that something I'm involved in might happen but that will probably be shelved if things carry on.

All that said I see no risk to the core scheme. I also think there is a certain hysteria in the current levels of inflation. It's obvious why but eventually (assuming the idiot Putin doesn't spark WW3) it will calm down and find its real level. A level that won't be quite as extreme or punishing as certain naysayers are suggesting, it's never as bad as they make out.
