I assume by hard line socialism you mean the following:
Being born - free.
GP - free.
Surgery - free
Dentistry - discounted or indeed free.
Education to 16/18. - free.
Not forgetting the other aspects of the state: I.e. The infrastructre, social services, DWP, police & fire service - largely/grossly discounted to the point that it's virtually free.

Damn those socialists wanting a fairer society where we all have a chance to live!

You might be happy deehell, to live off the scraps from a table you're allowed to serve, but never sit at, but I'm not.

I think you'll find we have all that thanks to to democratic capitalist system. while you have the proper democratic checks and balances you'll always have that or you'll find yourself out of office. Capitalism creates the wealth democracy redistributes. Socialism finishes with the destruction of wealth creation then grinding austerity and poverty as a symptom.

I wonder if Nye Bevan would agree with your assessment that he was a capitalist democrat? You're also dealing in extremes when no one is suggesting that.
For the life of me I cannot understand how anyone still believes that capitalism, rampant free markets, neo-liberalism or whatever it's calling itself these days (I prefer the term greed to be honest) is working for any one but a small slice of society.

The argument is seductive, the moral high ground and you solve all the countries problems without paying more tax, dream on.

No they're not.

And of course there will be an opportunity cost - I don't particularly care if some parasites who exploit all the benefits of the UK infrastructure to make themselves wealthy beyond measure, but refuse to abide by the social contract that provides it, decide to bugger off; good riddance. Maybe Lewis Hamilton can fly them wherever they decide to move to on his tax free private jet?

Your referring to a capitalist system without democratic accountability that would of course be barbaric just like a pure socialist system would be, either way you get a small elite living off everyone else. You're also dealing in extremes when no one is suggesting that.

Trouble is it won't just be parasites it will millions of people that will change their behaviour depending on what you pay. focusing on extreme greedy end of scale doesn't change the fact that taxation changes behaviour. It happened for years when under Labour with tax credit system that actually gave a disincentive to work and increased the national debt. Until we as a country run a surplus its impossible to tell what we can afford. What would be a disaster would be to increase the deficit, looking at our debt levels it would be bail out, IMF and massive austerity.

Millions of people wouldn't change their behaviour if corporations and the super-wealthy were made to pay proper taxes in the country that enabled them to make their money - like the rest of us do; conflating that with tax credits is almost as absurd as Kirsty whatsherface on QT last night, suggesting that getting duty free fags is morally equivalent to squirreling millions of quid into an offshore tax haven.

As for the deficit - it's increased by 53% under the coalition/Tory government - and we've had austerity for 7 years; so feel free to drop an email to the IMF.

Please see below the response to my email to Jon Trickett MP alluded to earlier in this thread.
Make of it what you will.

Thank you for contacting me in relation to your concerns regarding the future of Wakefield Trinity Rugby Club. This is a matter that has been raised with me recently by many constituent's that prompted me to contact Wakefield Council earlier in the year to seek information on how the matter is progressing.

Wakefield Council provided the response which follows:

"Dear Mr Trickett,

In April the Council published a comprehensive statement and timeline outlining what action had been taken to date. You can find a copy of this information on the Council website at www.wakefield.gov.uk/newmarket.

At the meeting of Full Council in April, it was announced that the developer has confirmed they are willing to progress with a new multi-party Section 106 Agreement.

Following a meeting with Wakefield District Community Trust on 26 April, the Council issued a joint statement to the media confirming this progress and the commitment of the Council and Trust to work together, with all parties involved, to realise the development of a community stadium. You can find a copy of the statement atwww.wakefield.gov.uk/newmarket.

The article you provided a link to in your email is misleading and contains inaccuracies. This has been raised directly with the newspaper concerned and reported to the Independent Press Standards Organisation. As a result, the Council will be given the opportunity to provide a comment on any future articles.

The allegations of corruption are completely unfounded and the Council take these slanderous comments very seriously. If they are repeated, they have stated that they are prepared to consider taking legal action against the individuals who make such claims."

As you will note, the response above provides a link to Wakefield Council's statement on this matter. The statement clearly outlines Wakefield Council's involvement with the process of securing a new stadium. I do hope that this answers your questions regarding why the process had been delayed.

I am continuing to monitor this situation.

If you wish to come and see me at my next advice session please let me have your phone number.

Regards

Jon Trickett MP
Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office and Shadow Lord President of the Council

It would appear that Councillor Box and associates don't take kindly to some of the accusations levelled against them.

All he has done is regurgitate what they told him earlier in the year as opposed to getting an up to date understanding

I would like to know how Mr Trickett knows with such certainty that the accusations levelled against the Council are unfounded. How can he confirm this?
