Come on you Wakefield fans lets all be honest here

How many of you actually knew that you were the first club to cheat the cap and also got a little let off too into the bargain?
Judging by the early posts on here you must have all been under 10 years old at the time or have selective memory loss (Inferiority complex)

Some humble pie to eat me thinks

Trinity didnt overspend the finite limit merely their 50% figure, they stupidly spent money based on an income they were anticipating which never materialised rather than improving/extending player contracts mid season then only informing the RFL at the end of the year.

Regardless, to me the overspend and punishment make no ends to me. Leeds breaking the cap with such a poop team is the real issue.

Did Wakey get a points deduction that season for breaking the cap?

Might be getting mixed up but they got a four point deduction reduced to two on appeal. The original investigation suggested we were at 78% of our income, it transpired it was more like 58%.

and if I remember correctly is was because a sponsor defaulted on payment and thus reduced our income after we had allocated the % to players wages.
ie the income was a 'moveable feast' and thus the % on wages was also, not like Leeds where the wages amount is a known quantity, fixed by the salary cap

Looks like Merrin is having to be a Leeds player for a little longer according to news ,granted a release by rhinos to seek a move down under, but apparently no Aussie club is willing to match his wages so having to come back with cap in hand to the rhinos.must rankle Leeds that they are paying a big wage on a player that wants away .
