Totally agree, not trying to defend it.

Just saying Newton’s hit on Long was nearly as bad, and then he went on to knock out another player in the same match. If you can’t remember it google it. You could at least say Flowers was in retaliation, not that that excuses it at all.

Most people make mistakes. He got a ban and I also believe the incident affected his form for a couple of years. He served his punishment.

Quite what that has to do with if we could be an asset to Trinity I don’t know.

If you don’t think he would be, fair enough.

I think he would be and he is available so is a realistic target, fair enough.

I do remember it along with Cassidys brutal hit on Sculthorpe amongst many others during my almost 60 years of walking this earth, this particular one sticks with me. I honestly wouldn’t want him, but if he did come it wouldn’t keep me away from the terraces home and away, like I’ve said on other thread we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Do you mean on Morley?

That wasn’t even close to being as bad as the Newton hit on Long, it was a bad one mind.

Good bit of build up to that one too in incidents throughout that match, it was a running battle between them 2 and I think Moz pole axed him earlier in the match with a cheap shot.

Terry just took Long out as he was their playmaker.

6 month ban thinking back and broken cheek bone and fractured jaw for Long.

Bloody hell, yes it was Morley, just digressing a bit more from the original thread was a scholarship game between Wakey and Cas at BV, what the Cas lads did that game was unbelievable, players with 9 & 10 match bans and coaches fired, thank god jordan was getting an injury treated when it kicked off.

The game is hard enough and injures easy to come by without these cheap shots, standing toe to toe will happen now and again understandable but when you’ve got someone involved in the modern day game it’s one less worry you can do without.

Again totally agree.

That’s the point with Flower he isn’t exactly a serial offender.

He made a mistake, paid for it, and now we move on.

Flower and Battye would make an excellent pair of Props along with 2 bigger guys in the match day 17.

If we could get both in I think it would be a real coup for the club.

Can’t really think of others who would add much though. Watkins and Singleton would have been good recruits but those ships have already sailed.

Gaz O’Brian cracking player but already heavy at 1 so not really an option.

Trinity fans used to shout the same at Terry Newton.....

Flower is a free agent (I assume now Toronto are no more) and starting to string some good performances together after a couple of below par years.

He is a tough experienced Prop who has played in and won a number of finals.

If Wakey are in a position to not go for that type of player with proven quality and leadership because of what he did a number of years ago then that’s great.

Must have some quality lined up.

Flower could be on his way to Leigh, along with Ryan Hall.

Well this is a bit awkward....I spent a season playing in Ottawa.

There is very much a market for a Summer sport in Canada as they don’t really have one.

I also spent just over a month in America at the end of that trip before coming home and from my personal experience the Canadians and Americans are very different. Canadians far more laid back for a start.

There is a core of very passionate people over there who love rugby of both codes. There isn’t the class clash and history that there is over here.

Now if you look at the size of Ottawa and surrounding areas the catchment area is massive.

A well structured professional team over there will go great I’ve no doubts about that but they need to get the model right.

Financially the Toronto model hasn’t worked.

Your last point kind of proves the point. One I agree with. The game is in a very dangerous place at the moment. 125 years trying to expand and still massive resistance and false dawns.

We need to look at new markets that we haven’t tried not keep on banging our heads against a brick wall.

I predict rugby league will be a very different game in 10 years time. I’m not sure what it will look like but if we keep doing what we have always done we will keep getting what we have always got for the last 125 years.

Not at all, glad you enjoyed yourself but it makes no difference.

I could go anywhere in the U.K. and find you hundreds of people enthusiastic for RL. What I couldn’t find you would be the thousands required to turn that into a real ground swell of support, the kind needed for a pro team. That’s the problem here, people like you with the best of intentions mistake a small number of enthusiastic followers of the game as a sign of its viability, they simply aren’t.

What really annoys me is that you people make huge leaps and claim it’s the only way forward if we are to survive and it’s utter rubbish. Was it Jack Gibson who said that for a team to prosper the back office needs to be right first! Well we are not even close, even if there was the slightest chance of Canada working the RFL simply doesn’t have the capability to do it.

You are day dreaming, until the domestic game is healthy we need to shelve all but the most modest of expansion goals. To turn the game around just in its stronghold is a ten year job in my book. Stop side tracking the game with your fantasies, we have far more important things to do,like stopping the amateur game dying on its feet for Christ sake.

Joe Mellor would be a good pick up for me, I would also look at Matty Russell for the wing if we are looking at replacing BJB in the next couple of years.
