Correct it isn’t anything to do with them imo. Max was just as impressive last season and instrumental in the much improved performances in the final months of the season. He earned the number one shirt for 2021 with some cracking performances in 2020. Max has clearly been working hard on his game for some time beyond the start of this season. I’d lay a lot of the improvements made by Max at Chesters feet. He’s had to really work to make it into Chesters favour and it’s made him a much better full back imo. He’s a good all rounder.
Really looking forward to seeing him realise his potential. Over the coming years.
I really wish I could agree with you especially on your previous post regarding him playing for England but I just don’t see it. Hope I’m wrong though.
For starters I don’t think he’s quick enough for that level but I suppose he could compensate for that.
More importantly is his defence. It’s certainly improved in the last year but it’s still flawed and imho always will be. Truth is Jowitt doesn’t relish the tackling part of the game enough. He does it well enough for SL but against the Aussies etc he’d get caught out. At that level you have to mean it, you have to hit them as hard as the rules allow, you have to chance every lost cause and you have to put your body on the line at an almost suicidal level at times and you have to be a big personality.
I may be wrong but I don’t think Max has that. Excellent club man but not an international for me.
