Clawson used pretty much the same techniques as all other SL clubs, with the obvious constraints of a club with poor training facilites compared to some.

If there was a fitness issue and IMHO there never was it was to do with poorly motivated players and by that I mean self-motivated. A fitness coach can only make you fit if you really want to be, it's easy for players to go through the motions and do the minimum, and it's very difficult to tell. Even if you can what players could we have dropped over the last three seasons, seasons where we could barely get a team together.

Clawson may not be the best I don't know but there is more to fitness than the bloke handing out the instructions. It has to be a joint effort otherwise you get mediocre.

Training is boring to most people and to do it well the motivation must come first from the player otherwise a change in coach will make very little difference in the medium to long term. If and it's a big if that we have been unfit then Clawson alone is not to blame, that's just too easy.

One person complained about the fittnes of the players, B Smith when he saved us from relegation he brought in is own conditioner after saying the players were not fit. We now have a new conditioner working along the old one and seeing to weight training ext .You got to admit the players look fitter than the have done for years this season

What, fitter than 2017 and 2019? I don't think so. It's almost impossible to gauge player fitness in the last two seasons due to Covid, so no I don't agree.

I don't know anything about Smith bringing in a conditioner but I don't recall us looking any fitter under Smith than anyone else. All I know is he destroyed morale by forcing players into training at six in the morning, excessive and totally unnessasary.

I don't get this fitness obsession on here. All coaches etc take the same courses to get their badges, they all know what's needed. All clubs follow roughly the same regimes, although some clubs clearly possess better facailities. I reckon if you blind tested every player in SL who isn't carrying an injury they would all have similar performance figures relative to their positions and match fitness. There will be exceptions, some players are exceptional trainers but most are the same.

Do you not think it's a no coincidence that 2017 to 19 might have been down to B Smith leaving a fitter teams ,so less injuries

No, 2016 is the only season where he could have had any effect. I actually think Smith did do some positive things and in a way, CC benefitted but not for more than one season IMO.

Smith brought in his son to help out, who at the time was working for the Roosters.

I did a search for the Ben Cooper link and it was in a gossip column way back in May. I thought I recalled seeing it officially announced for some reason - apoligies.

According to the Hull KR website, he's still employed with them.

Brought in by Tony Smith in 2020 and has also played under him
