No I'm not. I don't have a smart phone. My phone makes phone calls and texts. I don't need anything more.

What I'm trying to explain is, if you are typing on this forum, you must be using a computer of some kind.
I'm typing on a smart phone.
It's exactly the same except I can take my device anywhere, whereas you can't.

I think there is an inverted snobbery around social media.

I hate it but not because I think it’s users are stupid but because it’s just not for me.

Redcat why is communicating via a smart phone any more sad than doing so at a Working mans club?

It’s the misuse that’s wrong. Intolerance is not new and neither is the cancel culture.

Go to pub or club in the 1980’s around here and state that you broadly agreed with Tory policy, as is your right in a free country and see how soon you got cancelled, possibly physically.

Ditto if you wanted to hear groundless ill informed nonsense on everything or vicious home destroying gossip.

All social media has done is made it easier and more anonymous, being from the comfort of your own chair with 24/7 access.

It’s the same as it’s always been, 99% of people use it well and 1% abuse it.

It will take a few generation’s to get it under control but it’s here to stay, it’s the present and the future, like it or not.

Tha' s the point I'm trying to make, PT. The fact that I look at this forum on my laptop means I don't have to have a phone in my pocket for 24 hours a day and I'm not likely ro be tapping away whilst walking down Westgate or sat in the pub or on a bus. It seems that a good percentage of your 58 million would commit suicide if they were deprived of their (not so) smart phone for a day.

Other than when I'm at a game or away from home or work I never bother with Facebook or Twitter on my mobile so it's a bit of a red herring to think you need a mobile for these.
I tend to log on my PC regularly (work permitting obviously) and do the rounds of TotalRL, RLfans, FB and Twitter. The 2nd two require no more effort than the 1st two.
Only occasional check through Instagram.

FB could do with a few more of the silent majority.

I can't speak for the other 57,999,999 but I don't need to tap on my phone while walking, and in fact couldn't. Unless I was using the maps to find somewhere I guess.
I don't get the bus but let's assume train is the same? I can read a book on my phone. And if needed I can communicate with friends or work, when I would otherwise by just looking out of the window.
I can also text someone to pick me up using WhatsApp which is free compared to texting.

It's all just a matter of how you use the technology.
