I think you've misunderstood the rules.

There is a cut off date for those players not under contract where you need to tell them they are not being offered a contract or that they are still in negotiation but can talk to other clubs.
If we offered Batch a contract he must have been in the second group. If he wanted to test his value in the market he was allowed to do it but it doesn't mean we didn't want him.

Well thats a relief, i had a vision of the poor lad chained up to the goal posts, with the CEO taking him for a walk round the pitch twice a day.
