Re: Taxi for Mr Applegarth... Please! : Sun May 28, 2023 11:48 am
The indisputable fact is we have played 13 and lost 13. We are averaging 6 points per game which shows no sign of improving and unfortunately 29 points against. He can blame Ford for the failure in attack but unfortunately by the process of elimination he must be held at fault for our defensive frailties.
I would expect to see some progress but no we just do the same each week whichever team we pick. He said the return of Tanginoa would be the catalyst and now Jowitt but no nothing changes. We say Castleford are within reach which they are but does anyone actually believe we have three wins in us. It pains me to say that the incumbents and their quickly appointed coach have turned our great club into an on field joke. We are apparently not the worst team in SL history yet but the way it is going this is one record he could reach. What a legacy to finally relegate our great club on its 150 year anniversary coupled with 25 unbroken years in SL.

To be honest it’s hard to disagree with any of that.

"It didn't work with Poching either".

A 50% (ish) win ratio suggests otherwise to me.

"As it stands its looking like Applegarth isn't ready"

A 0% win ratio suggests to its not looking like it. It's absolutely nailed on.

Poching comes into the equation because we sacked him. Then replaced him with Applegarth. Who 1 man and his dog knew wasn't ready. I still to this day cannot comprehend the thought process beind this.

He got the push at the end of the season because the players were not happy…
I recall the senior players in our squad taking it upon themselves to more or less take things into their own hands to get the results…
Not quite sure how this came about . But something wasn’t right..
I remember tanganoa mentioning something about the training and how things had changed…at a pre season friendly interview he did
Now quite obviously things haven’t worked out….
This is just my opinion…. But I think MA is still in the head coach role until the new man takes over. I see little point in either appointing a head coach or an assistant for that matter until the take over stuff is sorted out…
He’s very likely to be replaced…but I’d like to think that he did a good job with the juniors …
The new man wants complete control.. so he will get to decide who’s doing what … it will be his to do with whatever he pleases.. where as mine is only an opinion!

It’s hard to argue with what he’s said
But do you really think replacing him at this moment in time would be beneficial?
What if the takeover goes ahead and the new owner doesn’t want our newly appointed coach?

I'm the same. The facts are indisputable.
The solution is not so easy.

If Applegarth was going to be replaced then I think he would of been already. I genuinely think the club will sort out the takeover etc first before doing anything with the coaching staff.

Ah those players who have now won 0 from 13!

Could it be that Poching actually pushed them and demanded professionalism from them and they didn't like it. Cos let's be honest whatever training they are getting this year must be atrocious!

All those players
Probably the two most influential players from our pack retired in Fifita and Arona
We lost our captain and half back in Miller. These players had all been with us a good few years..
Add to that our best strike player was injured and didn’t play after the Salford game..
James Batchalor decided he wanted a new challenge.
We lost Murphy in game two of this season…
All the above were a big influence at the back end of the season and helped get us over the line..
Now …. I’m not disputing that our recruitment has been poor, the board took a chance on MA being head coach… it hasn’t worked out…
But there are posters on here calling for him to be sacked when given there’s a good chance that we’re going to be bought out, I see little point in getting rid while negotiations continue! (The sooner they are resolved the better)
Wether the new bloke wants to keep MA on the pay role in whatever job title is up to him…
My point was that he did an excellent job in bringing the young lads on and was instrumental in getting us an elite academy licence ( no mean feat considering our lack of funds)
The new man might want to consider this …
It’s up to him..

I feel the new regime will see the coaching set up as an initial priority. Normally if a coach is changed the assistant stands in for the interim period whilst a new coach is found. However we got rid of our assistant and competent new coach's are not readily available, the recruitment process takes time. So if we sacked Applegarth this week who would do the job ?
