Not exactly a hypothetical question, at least, not now, but -

Sell-by dates: Do you stick to them rigidly, or do you "trust your luck"?

If, for sake of argument, you had some very fine Scottish smoked salmon in the freezer that you'd forgotten about for several months (9 months, to be precise), and the advice in the packaging was "consume within 1 month of freezing", would you still defrost it and eat it 9 months later?

I'm looking at this as a kind of human experiment, but if you don't hear from me in the next week or so, and are interested in joining the moderation team....

A, turn into a curry and have a few beers as well



B, if it doesn't smell fresh when defrosted try it on the dog /cat first



C, invite someone you don't like round for a meal but decline the fish dish

Sorry to be a bit pedantic (must be something to do with Leeds winning)but there is no such thing as a sell by date. There is a 'best before' and a 'use by' date.
