Yep, was the correct call at the time moving on a player with no heart for the fight for one that played a big part in saving us.
There is absolutely no question whatsoever that McShane is a far better player and is still now playing out of his skin for Cas...a superb rl player...it comes down to the want though and he didn’t want it for us unfortunately...
Highlights an argument I often have with fans who I don’t think ‘understand’ the game.
Some players will be great no matter where they play, Gareth Ellis for example. However they are in a very small minority.
Most players like it or not belong to certain clubs or at least certain types.
For any coach in charge at Wakefield it’s a very important thing to know. There is simply no room for the prima Donna ego. You can be egotistical but it needs to be of the stuff you variety.
These players I’m afraid will never win us trophies but they will keep us up and until we can accommodate enough of the entitled players that will never change.
McShane feels that he should be winning things. Well he’s not quite good enough to guarantee himself a spot at a true top club. Cas however do offer the next best thing, they at least always look like they might win something even if they rarely do.
It’s not just about money, if only it were. Players don’t come from a test tube, they are shock horror real people. Most of us are snobs in a way, image conscience and desperate for som prestige. Trinity with it’s disgusting stadium and shady recent history fails on all counts.
When it comes to attracting the right players we have a very limited gene pool. So as I say some players suit some clubs and when fans moan that the ones we get are rejects and journeymen whatever they are need to get real.
The fact that they are rejects from the ‘competitive. Clubs always suggests to me that they will be ideal for us.
One day that may change but not any time soon. For now rough diamonds with points to prove are where it’s at. Mr Fifita fits tha bill perfectly, let’s hope he realises that ASAP. For his sake as well as ours. Not sour grapes from me but I’m as certain as I can be that the minute he leaves us he will quickly sink into oblivion. There are very few clubs out there that will put up with Daves attitude, he’d get cancelled very quickly. See Solomona at Bradford, never really worked for them.
