This is just something Wakefield fans like to think when in fact the funding is there, hence 175k going to architects for plans. The "lack of funding" is just something fabricated by a Wakey or Fev fan on here and has pretty much zero substance.
For gods sake man what planet are you living on, the only reason the stadium at Glasshoughton isnt up already is because theres no money, do you think if Cas had the money they would be talking about a shared stadium
Council chiefs who met both clubs this week, suggested an independent assessment on both sites to establish which one was deliverable in the time-scale, and the most financially viable.
Most financially viable - with 1 parcel of land each against which to secure loans - Newmarket. With both parcels of land against which to secure loans - Glasshoughton (possibly / probably).
The clock's ticking down on the existence of a professional rugby league club within the City of Wakefield.

"Castleford's biggest home crowd of the 1991-1992 season wasn't quite 12,000 while on average they'd sit around 6000 but the noise, the chanting and the singing just blows you away" - Tawera Nikau "Standing Tall"
"I can tell you the atmosphere was extraordinary at Wheldon Road on big days. The ground held around 15,000 people, every one of them close to the action on the field and the noise would be enough to send a rumble through the town" - Malcolm Reilly "Reilly - A Life in Rugby League"
How many rail destinations travel to glasshoughton don't make me laugh !
Its called a railway - you know how they work (or do you?) - You get atrain from huddersfield (for example) to leeds then another train to Glasshoughton. See its easy!
Didn't want to get to involved in this just yet but that is a reckless and biased post. Talk about I'm alright Jack.
Better road links? Both identical, both are slip roads of the M62, what are you talking about
The A1? It's hardly a massive distance mind.
Better rail links? How many Wakey or Cas fans need a rail link, it is after all a stadium for Wakefield rate payers.
Possibly those without a car? I'm sure in these tough economic climes plenty have got rid of them.
Better commercial area? What has this got to do with anything?
The sustainability of the clubs as businesses there? The commercial value of the clubs and the attraction of the area to families.
Furthest along in development? In your dreams.
Well, the facts are that one has outline planning permission, the other doesn't. One has architectural drawings being unveiled in three weeks, the other doesn't.
Least objectors? Glasshoughton, agreed but the objections to Newmarket are pretty limited.
Apart from Leeds CC, local action groups and environmental health, I suppose so.

my girlfriend says i'm immature, and it's time we set aside one day a week so we can talk things through as adults. like THAT'S gonna happen in the middle of conker season!!
Newmarket certainly beats Glasshoughton for traffic as the ESCAPE and Freeport will be there can you imagine the traffic 6000+ rugby fans watching a match and freeport shoppers and Escape what many familys go for a day out. Newmarket would win hands down on that front.
Got me there, Im sure loads of rugby league fans would just love to visit Newmarket and take a tour round the empty industrial units (if they get built) rather than a look round escape and a few bevvies before the game then out to Nandos or any of the other eateries after the game followed by a bit of shopping to pacify her , then a leisurely train journey home.
You cant beat empty industrial units for a family day out nosirreee
As an outsider, what do you think of the human race ?
The Pro's and Con's are irrelevant. One stadium is fundable as it stands and one isn't. If both had the necessary funding then this proposal wouldn't have even thought up.
I think this is what Box has planned. Chaos, with rival supporters having a willy waving contest with regards to who has the better site. It detracts from the shameful way WMDC has handled itself recently. How on earth can they say one thing less than 12 months ago then, after a lot of money has been spent by both parties, change the goalposts completely.
My gut feeling is that neither will get the support/approval needed to build a stadium and we will both end up in NL1 - if we are lucky. At least we might have another derby vs Fev to look forward to and we ain't too far from Batley & Dewsbury.
Meanwhile, in comes another French team (Tolouse?) to the SL. Perfect for the RFL!!

But he does tell a few truths and im sure you dont like to hear them, but its all getting us nowhere, just a thought , let both clubs resign from Superleague to save them the trouble of getting rid of both of us , and get rid they will , both clubs , just as soon as a franchise is ready in scotland or italy or even timbuickfeckintoo.
Both clubs and fev need to keep their own identities and keep the sport alive in the area , whilst red hall do their best to kill the game as it stands .
Maybe its time for a breakaway league..... it worked last time
