Re: Wakefield v Warrington : Sun Jul 12, 2015 7:50 pm
I have not been today (prior engagement) but it sounds like they did ok considering the players missing and players out of position.
Well done Jacob Miller, When was the last time a Wakefield player scored 4 in SL?

Hall unfortunately is not the player we thought he was going to be, at least not at 1 or 6. I do think that he could possibly still do us a job in the three quarters though. take some pressure off him, because he is really not playing well under the spotlight. He has shown glimpses of being very dangerous when he has the ball.

Difficult one to gauge yesterday.
40-20 against an in form Warrington would be ok but, Warrington aren't the force that they have been and it felt like a step backwards.
Miller was outstanding and his second try was absolutely superb. To beat 4/5 players, all of whom were in touching distance, was probably the highlight of the season, fantastic.
The downside was our inability to defend our line after a mistake.
We gifted them their first 4 tries by coming up with "errors" (ok one was an illegal ball steal) but we have to be able to defend when something goes against us.

Having said that, if you have Godinet alongside Miller and throw Ali into the mix, we would have been far more dangerous, so maybe we can be ok.

The other contenders for the bottom 4 spots in SL all won yesterday and we have to keep improving. Not long till the start of the season !

How did Kevin Locke go? I appreciate it's only his second start. I only seen the limited highlights from Sky it looked like he had a bit of mare in defence. I see his fiancée has just signed for a New Zealand netball team for 2016 too which I assume means he will also return.

It would be good to see him bow out of Super League on a reasonable high, ie performing well and helping Wakefield retain their Super League place. It's not good seeing players like him struggle. It's amazing how a player can go from playing in a World Cup final against Australia at Old Trafford to where he is now in the space of 2 years.

Kevin Locke is clearly a quality player and has shown glimpses in the two games with us of what he can do. He needs more games to get match fit and I'm sure we'll see good things from him.

Don't you lot dare have a go at Anakin - he is the saviour of the club and the finest player we have or so I'm told.

Seriously it's to early to bin this lad in the same way it's to early to give him the keys to the city - time will tell.

However there is no way he will ever be the player some think IMHO.

I really hate to mention size because I will open a can of worms - but I'm going to. He isn't big enough for prop and he didn't really shine (to be kind the lad) at Loose forward.
There's no doubting the size of his heart but I just don't know where he fits. Does he have the skills as a second row to play out wide - I don't know but prop and LF -NO.

I've been "keeping my powder dry" on Annakin so far, but have been thinking exactly the same myself. You can't knock his effort or enthusiasm (Hall could certainly take a leaf out of his book), but...and it's a big but.......he just isn't big enough. Yes, he runs it in hard, but when does he ever bust a tackle or make a clean break ??? Unfortunately, never, as I am sure the stats will confirm.
How many times did he get put on his backside yesterday ????
And whilst I am being controversial (must be down to having been on nights this weekend !!), I would have to level some of the same at Mickael Simon...like Annakin, he runs it in hard, but never busts a tackle or makes a clean break. We need the bigger forwards such as Anderson, Scruton, Lautiiti, Dan Smith, Kirke (if he would run it in as hard as Annakin and Simon, he might actually make an impression !!) to keep driving it in and get us on the front foot.

I agree about Annakin, I disagree about Simon.
The difference with Simon is he has an off load game, AND he powers hard when he hits the tackle. He makes more ground after the impact than any other forward in my opinion (maybe Ali is an exception there)
You don't have to break the tackle to be effective at Prop.

Fair comment PT about Simon's off-loads... after I had typed the above message, it did occur to me that Simon is good at off-loading in the tackle :thumb:
