Two things,
One, there is cancer at Wakefield and there has been for decades. This is just a continuation of a saga that has been running since the 1970s.
It's like groundhog day. New people come in, they build a team and just as it starts to look like we finally might be getting somewhere it all falls to poop. Same issues over and over again and it all seems to revolve around the attitude of the players versus the management with a good deal of local gossip and self-interest thrown in.
I don't go as far back as some but I'm told Toppo was basically pushed out because the BOD and the players who had improved under him couldn't agree on what they were worth.
Look at McNally, 2004 players hero, 2005 they hated him to a man. Tony Smith, first games in charge instant success, following season the players hated him, even Agar, did well to start then bang, players hated him.
There is a pattern here and painful though it is maybe now is the time to break the cycle.
I have no wish to back CC, I think it's too late and he isn't good enough as a motivator. However, if he's staying breaks the 'player power' that has held this club back for years it may be worth it. However it's not just the players, there are clearly people lurking behind the scenes who are just as culpable, the whole place needs to be flushed out. That's what Salford did, that's what Leeds did when GH took charge, they washed away the past and started again.
Maybe I'm wrong with the detail, I am however right about the real issue. These problems were at the club long before CC and MC and must be tackled.
Two, if you want a clue then take what MC said some month back at the start of COVID. He said he was surprised by the reaction of some players to pay cuts and that he wouldn't forget those who supported him or those who didn't.
There is where it started, there is your problem and it's not just to do with CC. There is clearly a split amongst the player and you don't need to be Sherlock to work it out. That's' why the performances have been so patchy IMHO and why some players seem committed and some don't. Looking from the outside as fans do it's hard to know who's right, it always is. We as fans now need to choose who we back, the Coach (at least short term) and the BOD or a dissident group of players with an agenda of their own?
Tricky one if you have the ability to think deeply rather than just get angry and demand a head on a plate.
