I thought we went OK for a first run out.
Pack were fine. Didn't really consider the Hooker really. I need to watch Hood closer. We had them all on at one stage.

Backs.
I quite liked Hall. I'd be ok if he started for us while Tupou and Croft are not ready.
Mimms put the effort in but not particularly flash.
Murphy I thought was pretty good but his size will affect his play. Time will tell but he's quite slightly built.
Trialist winger made a couple of mistakes but what he did well I liked.
I really liked our full back Butterworth. Will take him time but I think he could be good long term.

Our half backs are both quite creative but not too much on show today. Got a bit predictable. I'd have liked to see us throw the ball but maybe that wasn't the game plan.

Didn't look like we had any injuries so a good enough day with improvement to come.

Positives

Crowther, brilliant captains knock the hardest tackler on the park.

Bowes, great engine

Hall looked classy

Fifita, a good run out.

Walker did well.

Murphy, you just know.

Decent training run, ran out of steam and options at the end.

I hope Bowes starts the season as first choice hooker, best player for Trin today in my opinion.

More impressed with the lad on the other wing .

I weren't, but I would like to see him again. Looked a strong runner when he tried to clear our own in goal, but never really got chance in open play.

He needs to be something special to get ahead of Johnstone, Lineham, Kershaw, Kay and even Murphy, so I'm convinced he'll get a long term deal. I didn't think Minns showed up too well either, although I know it's unfair to judge after one pre-season friendly. I suppose a lot will depend on how Jack Croft's recovery is going. I like the look of Corey Hall as well.

Vasty I take it you must have had a crap Christmas and need an argument to satisfy your ego.
Good luck

So in your world, there is no team structure in a team then, suddenly 17 players, most of whom have never played together suddenly become a creative team?

Had a great Christmas thanks, don't post what you can't justify or ask blatantly obvious questions.

You asked for the reason for the team selection. WP gave it pre-match, he clearly stated that these were the only players available. Why I don't know but if the Coach says that then I believe him.

I've read a lot of your posts and I suspect that even if we had of played a full team you'd still complain, probably along the lines of why did we risk playing X,Y and Z in a meaningless friendly and now have a load of injuries. On a day like today what sane coach would risk his entire squad, it's not like we don't know those combinations work, is it?

It's a friendly with a makeshift team, what on earth did you expect.

I'M not sure about this because the info is so sparse but I think Butterworth is more a HB? But may be miles off.

Re: Squad for Leeds : Sun Dec 26, 2021 1:44 pm
I thought as far as run outs went it was great. For the team we had out missing out starting 1-7 and multiple forwards we competed well especially in the first half. Obviously the score got away from us in the 2nd half but I was impressed with loads of players ie Murphy, Hall, Minns etc. With the players to come in throughout pre season I’m pretty happy.

Fifita and Murphy were the positives for me. Murphy pretty much had Broadbent in his pocket first half forcing a few repeat sets and scoring a try. The lad looks like he just needs the game time much like TJ did at his age and be allowed to make a few mistakes and learn from them. He will be class you can tell.

Crowther went ok but he needs to be better to take the 13 shift imo. Funny you mention tackling as he missed 2/3 in a row on players kick return leading to half breaks. My opinion is this is an area he needs to improve to be the starting 13. He went ok otherwise and it’s a first hit out and plenty of time to work things out.

Fifita was head and shoulders the best player for us today.

You only need to look at who we were missing and the fact we had 3 number 9s on the pitch at one point against a strong Leeds team to understand despite the score we actually went pretty well today if a bit blunt in attack.

I stated the result doesn't matter and didn't expect a result in our favour.
I said we created nothing in the whole game you pointed out we only had 2 creative players playing,, and then stupidly asked who could create.
You then question my posts suggesting I would have made negative comments had we picked a stronger squad who may have got injured.
Vasty stick to factual comments please and try come the new year not to make things up.

On another note the progress Yusuf Aydin has made over the last 18 months is incredible, I really rate this lad, proper no nonsense and really put it about today. Great player in the making.
