He would get my support, with a decent assistant. From the club's point of view, he would probably be half the price too when compared to some of the other names mentioned. It has to be remembered that Gentle is no more proven as a head coach than Cummins.
The only thing that would worry me is that he does not come across as a person with much of a physical presence. Shouters and bawlers are good for a few games but momentum burns out eventually, and I have never seen Wayne Bennett scream and shout. But then again, maybe he did in his younger days. Cummins always comes across as a pretty quiet and measured sort of bloke, and so I have that nagging doubt that for all his rugby expertise, he might not command a team very well.
Having said that, I hope as fans, whoever the coach is, he is given 18 months at least before people think about getting on his back. If it's someone new to a head coach role, we have got to accept that the first year might not be great.
Mind you, I'll give Goulding two games before I'm calling for his exit, those being the Boxing Day fixture at Leeds and the friendly at Fev.
