Good old fashioned no nonsense prop ,who has a decent offload as well , what more can we ask for really in a player.
Must have liked the place last year to have signed 3 years as well .Mc was talking about how there was a shortage of quality props and so agents were upping their asking prices ,supply and demand and all that ,so to pull this off is a real coup for the club .

Funny sport is RL in the UK. Ten years ago you couldn't find a decent centre or winger for love nor money, now I'd say there are a fair few. Whilst props were all over the place.

It doesn't seem to be the size as there are some monsters in the lower leagues, not sure what the issue is with some of these lads as they look ok to me.

Battye is tried and tested at this level and not such a gamble when your not awash with money vasty,so may be a big gamble to have a punt on a unproven prop .Plus I was listening to one of the RL podcasts (paul wood) and another sticking point for turning full time pro is if the player has a good payed job and a young family ,it’s a huge gamble to pack it all in for a tilt at the big time and not make it .
Whatever the reasons are for the shortage I think we’ve got a cracker , and can’t wait to see him plying his trade in the red, white, and blue once again .

I've commented on the last bit may time and it's totally true, I was thinking mainly of those single lads 25 and younger who can risk a punt on themselves.

The real problem is finding somewhere to trial them. You just don't get the A N Others anymore, not even in friendlies let alone first-team games. With no Reserve competition, it's very difficult to get them a game in which they are under our control.

I know it's a bone of contention with Lower League clubs reluctent to let go of what they have without compensation and I get it. There really needs to be some mechanism by which these players can be given a trial period of some kind with a fixed level of compensation for the parent club if it all works out.

It's obvious there is some talent there, Battye at 29 is IMHO a more complete footballer than either Green or Tangata and in some ways even Fifita, only Arona for me is a better all-round player.

In other news. The new team pics are up and they look very smart.

I know it’s hard to be certain but I’ve seen a few pic of Fifitas face recently and he look slimmer in the face. Whether that’s just an optical illusion I don’t know. However looking younger and slimmer in the face is usually a good sign of health so fingers crossed the lad is finally back in business.

Miller needs a hair cut and Crowther appears to be sporting a porn tash,, have words dad!
