That was a useful game and a good hit out. We never got 1 minute looked threatened by Dewsbury imho. Their second try came from 3 penalties I think.
The defence looks to be improved and I have to say the players all looked in great shape and very fit. It’s good to see a lot of hard work has been done on fitness in the off season.
Chris Green I thought went well which was a nice surprise. He made good yards and carries and looks to be over his injuries. It’s like having a new prop.
Batchelor made 2 nice clean breaks and an assist as well as forcing a drop out. Hoping he is a shoe in for that right SR spot as he looks to be carrying on that rich vein of form from end of 2021.
The young lads stood up very well and that second half for the last 25/30 half the team were young lads and Dewsbury still didn’t look like scoring. There’s some good young players coming through at a Wakey.
The conversions were great to see at 5/5 so that’s positive.
The only slight negative for me was the way we ended sets. The kicking wasn’t great with 7 tackle sets, out on the full etc but I don’t think we can be too critical as it was probably the match to test a few things on that front.
Hope Lino is okay and hasn’t damaged his ribs. Though if he has Hampshire is a good option to have.
We also played the last 12 mins with only 12 players on the pitch, apparently Chessie wanted to test them
Considering the team that was on the field for most of the second half (with probs only 3 first team regular certs) and only conceding 4 points, it looks like we do have a bit of strength in depth.
