They key bit you are missing is that he got a higher offer from Cas and we weren't wanting to pay that.
They may have reacted too late to up the offer but he went for the money, otherwise he'd have stayed on our base offer.
I don't necessarily blame him. He has a family and he is working for money same as the rest of us.
But that's not quite the same as him wanting to stay and we didn't want him.
