In principle is different from approving isn’t it. The problem with your argument is that what he is saying yes it sounds a good idea but let’s see how it can be done. It was this part that was initially passed by the coalition later upheld by the Conservatives.
All you can accuse Labour of is setting up the initial process the rest is down entirely to the coalition and the Conservative government’s who agreed the direction, costs and administration of completing the task. If this appears to now be shambolic and expensive the fault lies with the coalition and conservatives.
I believe once the plan was presented by the coalition Darling and many others thought it was too expensive and badly constructed.

Yet in the 2019 Labour Manifesto, they were committed to completing the full HS2 route to Scotland.
So Labour had an idea, did like it,so got a report done, after the report they still liked it,so Darling approves in principle moving forward, then Labour lose power and fast forward to 2013 and Darling doesn't like it (its a complete waste of money),fast forward again to 2019 and Labour like it again that much, they commit to completing it,if they get into power...............
We will never know if Labour would have passed it in 2012,because they had already lost control, but one things for sure they still seemed to like their idea in December 2019,but they may well have changed their mind again now as they didn't get into power.
Wait, let me guess, its the Tories fault Labour can't make there mind up ?
Its obvious that to some on here Labour can do no wrong and have never made mistakes or told lies,to some on here every Tory voter "has blood on their hands" or is a racist,or both!!
The country will get the chance to hold the Tories to account at the next GE.
