Some really good comments on here either for or against Leeds and it`s good to see the season is almost upon us. Personally I don`t see the arrogance from Leeds towards the other teams but I would say that. And I really don`t buy into the dirty Leeds tag some of you have come up with but each to their own. Like most sports in this country we love the underdog and love to see a good team get beat. I couldn`t stand Steve Davis and thought he always got the rub of the green. The incident with Shoebottom was caused by Colin Dixon kicking him in the head as he scored a try Leeds vs Salford at Headingley. I`ve supported leeds all my life and was very friendly with the great John Atkinson and for Vasty I was also friendly with Joe Jordan and Gordon McQueen even after they signed for MU lol. I agree MU have more a dislike for Liverpool followed by Man City. Leeds United fans like to think they have a rivalry with MU. Thanks for all the comments it has been interesting and having lived in Wakefield in the past and now back again I think the place has a lot to offer but not as good as Leeds though
Although there is plenty of "history" between the clubs and dodgy calls in cup finals etc (always in Leeds favour ), it's the power of Leeds chequebook that has irked most fans over the years. Every time Leeds fall on hard times, on the pitch, they come sniffing round our better players, they always have and always will. Thankfully, our better players seem to prefer Trinity to the "bright lights" of Leeds at the moment and long may that continue

Home advantage anyone
Was'nt it Pitts the last one they got off us? And before him Ellis ! Maybe the tide is beginning to turn, like MC say's we are not a selling club anymore.

Aiton in 2013 but paid a fair price £50k I think which we needed at the time.

Being stronger, financially, off the pitch, certainly helps keep the vultures at bay but, I bet they're always trying. Ellis going was a real killer for us at the time. To lose one of your best players, captain and as a local kid, was a real kick in the nuts.
Having said that, he just got better and better and ultimately, we were lucky that he played some of his career at Trinity.
Generally, we dont seem to swap as many players with Leeds (and Cas) that we did a few years ago, which has to be a good thing.

Do you think had we been the position we are in now financially that Ellis would have gone to Leeds? Subsequently do you think had Ellis stuck around Wakefield, he would have attracted the amount of attention he did from NRL clubs?
There seems to be a perception by a lot of our fans that players don`t get the recognition they deserve because they play for Wakefield Trinity, I am sure that is a lot less true now than it was 10 years ago but I still think there maybe some truth in that.

It is but Ellis would be a hard one to keep even now. Maybe if in a few years when the stadium improves considerably and with it hopefully the team but as we are now I still think he'd go. Ellis was always one of those who actually meant it when he said he wanted the challenge and the chance to win trophies. Leeds still look a much better bet for that.
I think part of why we think we are more of a keeper club now is mainly down to Tom Johnstone. The lad is an anomaly, he really seems to mean it when he says he likes it here, by rights, he should be at Saints or Leeds by now and we should have pocketed an enormous wedge. Maybe we shouldn't be too cocky though, had Tom not got injured at the start of 2019 and in the form, he was in I'm not sure we could have resisted the offers that would have come our way, not even MC.

I think that it's 3 fold. The quality of our players, who is coaching the national side and yes, whether they will pick players from supposed "unfashionable" clubs. Tbf, we haven't exactly had a dearth of players worthy of national selection. Assuming he stays fit, Johnstone is an obvious candidate but, back in the day, Kirmond (when he was on top of his game) was very, very unlucky not to get a call up and he certainly fitted into the "unfashionable" club category. Had he been playing for Leeds or Wigan, he would have been a regular for those 2/3 years. I think it says a lot about how MC has gone about running the club that, playing for Trinity, shouldn't be a reason, not to get an international call. Mind you during the Bennett era, the international game went backwards and at some pace. We all wait to see how Wane runs things.

Gareth Ellis was born in Leeds according to wikipedia, wren, but I know what you mean.
