During the mid 60s my dad kept the Alec in Belle Vue
I used to go watch the training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursday the training consisted of Don Metcalf taking the squad running round the pitch twice, then 10 mins of touch and pass !!!
And Trail never seemed to make an appearance as I recollect

When we talk about individual players from the 60s many would be great in today's game.
Clearly Neil would be awesome, Brooke, Turner, Don Fox and Haigh to name but a few would be great.
It surprised me when talking to Ian Brooke and Ken Rollin about today's game and whether they'd enjoy it. They both agreed they would love to play in the modern game as the training and tactics have changed so much and would suit them. They also said if Don Fox was playing they'd be able to play at the age they are now as he could put them through a gap every time.

The point being, players can move eras, coaches and training methods not so much.

Even 5 years out of coaching can leave you well behind on tactics and training methods in the modern game.

If we were to get Ivan Cleary, which I do doubt. I wonder, as he was the former coach of Penrith, as to whether he would be able to negotiate to bring with him one of the two senior Penrith halves, as it was stated earlier in the season that they are unsettled at the Panthers.

My only doubt on Soward or Wallace is that they are both 30 plus, and have just come back from bad injuries, but I am sure either of them would be a better option to what we already have

Hope I'm wrong but I think Trinity got really lucky getting a coach of Brian Smith's calibre and I can't see it being repeated with another ex-NRL head coach...

....may be different if there was loads of money to pump into the team to also finance the purchase of Jamie Soward...but there isn't and it's more likely a cheaper English coach and maybe a half back signing from the championship if one available at the right price following that .....

On the plus side Kirmond and Moore should be fit to play next week!

Based on form for the past 3 years, what is the benefit of Kirmond being any where the 19 man squad

Didnt think I would say this a few months ago, by will be glad to see Moore back fit again, as he could provide us with some faster attacking play

A specialist hooker is a must and Moore will hopefully get us on the front foot . Look how much better saints are with Roby which we will find out tonight

I would say what's been killing us in attack is the halfbacks - we only have one (Finn) who has the possibility of creating anything.

Re: New coach : Fri Mar 11, 2016 9:29 am
Suppose it's quite exciting getting new coaches in it isn't good but it is exciting knowing who it is.
Who ever it is I want them to play players in form and give our youngsters a try. I don't want them picking the same old rubbish that we know are no good week upon week
