Thats why some clubs were hoping Catalan would have been relegated a few seasons back.

In the long term I would hope it would grow the French game and maybe give us a competitive international to play regularly.

As for costs associated with playing in France I guess the plan would be to increase TV revenue through an expanded deal however I’m just kicking ideas around.

I wouldn’t like to be the group making this decision however it is the correct outcome. I expect they will be provided with a framework to compare each club against. The obvious choice would be the losing finalists but a case could be put forward for London, Leigh plus any of the others.

Final point on this how will the salary cap be sorted it might seem trivial but 16% of the league may have an advantage due to exchange rates and domestic issues not covered by the UK like taxes etc.

It would potentially mitigate any possible court application as the RFL would be able to reference the relegated team and the losers of the grand final. Seems like a good idea, but the problem would be do they actually have any players who are not furloughed? If they get a squad together, do they go for an SL standard squad or a championship squad? Whoever wins the game then has to get a competitive SL squad assembled in a month, with no cash.

Being promoted for next year could well be a poisoned chalice. I can't see them being protected from relegation (maybe with the exception of Toulouse) unless the next lowest team is relegated as per Castleford. Maybe the wise clubs would save their promotion challenge to 2022.

Bit off topic. What was the vote taken once regarding Widnes? I seem to remember our CEO at the time Diane Rogerson abstaining on behalf of Wakey which effectively saved Widnes from "something".

Leigh seem best prepared in terms of having something to close to a SL squad.
I'd love Fev to be in as the derby games were always good fun but, cant see them getting the nod and then we have the two "expansion" clubs London and Toulouse.
The framework / criteria given to the "independent" group, who will ultimately choose the lucky club, will go 3/4 of the way to deciding who is most likely to fit the bill.
In a sense, their hands will already be tied and what chance will there be for any new club to assemble a squad capable of retaining their SL status at the end of next season.

It would have been better to run with 11 clubs and find a different use for Magic, maybe a Challenge Cup round ??
