I wasn’t going to post but based on the limited coverage it was obvious that our game plan is unchanged and our defence out wide still unresolved. I know we had several players missing but this would not change how we play. The kicking from hand was pretty much the same and our second phase almost nonexistent. I heard at one point TC saying that Woods was not expecting the offload, that is the problem he should because second phase is the way points are scored.
I know it was a friendly against a lower league team who also made many changes during the game, the problem is that in less than two weeks we face Leeds and we cannot stand another season like the last two.
I look at how we played in previous seasons when we had a playmaker in Smith who was flawed but definitely skilled and it is light years ahead of what we are producing now despite a much stronger squad apparently.
I hope for the best that maybe yesterday was not an example of the performances to come.

You worked that out from a half team friendly - ludicrous even for you. No points into ceded in the last 15 minutes with 12 men mainly kids, terrible, sack Chester now I say,

You said 8 players struggling, CC didn’t say that did he. He said niggles, which is a million miles away. To most coaches that’s basically playing your cards close to your chest.

Your up to your old tricks, spreading issues you don’t know exist.

Up to my old tricks this is coming from somone like yourself . Hampshire will be out jowitt struggeling or sorry touch and go then there where a few players went off due to injuries ankles backs and ribs add to this the players who couldnt play yesterday so what i say isnt a million miles away as there could so easily be 7 to 8 players unavailable. At no point did i say anything negative but like always been the sad man you are you sit behind your keyboard picking fault with absolutely nothing thinking you know everything.

For what its worth i dont think the main first teamers did thst great but on saying that i wouldnt expect them to in this kind of game and to me the performance is irrelevant and not fussed by it at all its about the much needed match fitness although batch was good and 100% deserves to start at leeds and really liked the look of the young lad greensmith looked very promising and certainly saved what seemed a certain try

The good thing is I don’t really care what you think about this or every other topic you insist on pushing your views.
I would point out therefore that we had better continue playing with 12 because we conceded 10 points when we had 13.

I agree, i just don't get this self-flagellation some fans indulge in after these games that are basically training games.

What people need to look at is two things IMO.1: how sharp and fit established players look. 2: How the fringe players showed up.

So let's make this thread a discussion about the above, as it should be.

Lino did ok, nothing special. Ditto Miller.

Thought Batchelor looked in a different league to the rest. Tangata put a good stint in. Tanginoa has nothing to prove.

B. Walker tried every trick in the book but yesterday wasn't his day but when it is that kids a potential match-winner.

Bill and Lyne looked as sharp as they needed to as did Arundel which was nice to see, The rest of the first-teamers went through the motions though Kershaw looked eager.

All the youngsters did well, Ollie had his best game against the misters so far, Bowes looked composed, Windrow is a man-boy, very strong. We have some reasonable talent coming through. Esher is clearly an athlete, one to watch if he can develop as a player.

Lots of players missing.

Overall a nice hit out against a committed team, result, utterly meaningless to both.

It's this bit that fascinates me because it's so ridiculous

"I wasn’t going to post but based on the limited coverage it was obvious that our game plan is unchanged and our defence out wide still unresolved".

For the last five years, TJ and BJB have scored a shed load of tries down the edges, more than most clubs and the bulk of our points. So clearly this mythical 'edge' theory of yours must afflict all teams as those two players have scored plenty against all teams!

Since RL began most tries have been score on the edges, how else do you expect them to be scored exactly?

I doubt we concede any more than anyone else on the 'edges', I base this on how many tries we get for ourselves on the 'edges'.

You can't have your cake and eat it, though I expect that's exactly how you think. We conceded a lot of tries in many ways last year and most were due to us simply not being as good as the opposition on the day, in all, not just one facet.

Secondly, what game plane? We used 20+ players, most untried, it was a trial game, who but a fool would possibly believe it could have a game plan. Even if it did it could only possibly have been for the first 20 minutes or so, which had a score of 18-0 in our favour, so I'd suggest it worked.

Also Vasty, another point, we only notice when we get scored against on our edges because its against our team....
.............As opposed to we don't give a sh*t when we score on their edges.... only joy!

Tim Smith? If so we watched/saw two very different players.
Our best rugby in the last ten years has been with a twilight Liam Finn at 7. or Hampshire. I understand the reason that Brough was brought in and it seemed to make good sense but just didn't work out.
I agree that our wide defence needs to be high on someone's priority list now that we have the coaches available to focus on these areas.
