There seems to be a membrane down on the field now.
JM did an intro and said that goes down before they put the turf down.
Still says its 90% grass with the artificial stuff just giving it structure and longevity.

Part of a statement made by JM a couple of weeks ago

A permanent big screen will also be erected in the North-West corner of the stadium and the pitch will be replaced at the end of the season.

A new hybrid surface will be laid and Minards explained: “It’s 90 percent grass but it grows through a carpet, which enables it to be much stronger grass and we will have a full irrigation system associated with it as well. We’re planning to do that as soon as we finish this season, which is quite exciting as well.

“It will be a better quality pitch and we’ll get a lot more use out of it on non-matchdays, which is one of the things we’re seeking to achieve by making it a community stadium.”

I’ve read into these hybrid pitches and they can vary hugely. As you say it grows through a mesh that protects the roots of the grass. Some are supplemented by man made grass fibres and can be as low as 70% grass.

Ours interestingly matches the requirements recommended by the FA I believe.

What needs to be remembered is that unlike astroturfing it is not maintenance free. But with good management will be up to three times as usable as grass in the winter and virtually no restrictions in summer. That’s a vast increase in use ability.

Yes. JM commented that Bathy was very much involved in it and would maintain in future.

I believe the new pitch is seeded, rather than turfed.

The photo on this link may have been taken today for the sponsorship story. The west Terrace looks to have something on top of the steps. Anyone know what it could be? I wonder if the green on the pitch is the artificial carpeting for the grass seed. Unfortunately the old hospitality boxes on that side looks even worse now.

That is really odd. It looks like steal girders for new terracing! Or it could just be a dodgy image. I’m at the ground next week and I’ll have look if I can.

Well spotted. Looks like something going on in the northwest corner too.

Could it be what they’re going to use on the north stand? Just laid out ready there to utilise the space while they work on the pitch

That's what I was thinking. You wouldn't put materials in the place you are about to work. You need the space.
