I just can't see a semi-professional AFC being anything but a failure in the City of Wakefield. It's been tried - and failed previously. We are a rugby league city and those who do prefer the round ball game have three football Championship sides to choose from within a 13 mile radius, which seems to satisfy the needs of football-minded folk already. I recall RMW being formerly a director of Leicester City AFC; whether he still is or not I don't know. if he is still on the LCFC Board is he allowed to be a director of another Football League club?

Slightly off topic but that highlighted line is completely wrong. Take a look at the like of Bury & Bolton recently plus the current League 2, National League and clubs lower down the pyramid than that. I'm sure they'd tell you that you're

Anyway back on topic, we'd be nowt without MC and others like him.
Up the Trin.

That line is completely true when I see what money goes into my grandkids amateur football club and what they can tap into ,whereas my grandkids RL club is worlds away in terms of monies available .
Not a clue about the football that’s played above these levels but would have thought it would have gone up pro rata

Oh give it a rest how the hell do you know? It’s one thing hearing it from IA or TRB but coming from a poster who’s only contribution to the debate is the endless refrain of ‘are we there yet’? Is just tiresome.

Give us a proper thought out reason and I’ll happily listen, that after all is what forums are for. We have Twitter for pointless statements

I’m sure I’ll get a telling off but it needs saying if this forum is to remain at the same side of the debate.

been some 30 years since I played locally and not kept in touch with teams in the league but by did some searching to find out where abouts and levels of the teams that are playing today,
surprisingly Wakefield AFC is higher than Nostell Welfare reason I say that is the levels is between them Nostell is 9 where Wakefield is level 8 and Nostell has a far better facilities, digging deeper I found this page http://wakefieldafc.co.uk/2019/06/01/ho ... announced/
announcing they will be returning back to Wakefield when the same stadium has been devolved, so at some point it will happen, then changes that happened at Nostell over the years was nothing but amazing have worked at Nostell and also playing for few seasons on the old stopping field I was in awe of what they manage to complete and I sure my old mate Glanville has still within the set up, I very much doubt they will ever be able to climb any high within the league structure but Wakefield would have a chance by joining in with Trinity, there will be a few on here will hate the thoughts of football being played at Belle Vue well if any progress has to be made it will have to come to terms that it will happen and it that means Walkers involvement then so be it,
as far as support their not doing any favours based in Barnsley but that could well change, success and a wealthier backed could get heads turning but it will take money to do, whether they can keep up financially is another thing what they will bring a funding which is not available to us to my knowledge so I expect they will want some kind of hold to the ground.

Fishermanscap all they are saying is that Walker did us no favours having the 106 agreement removed from the contract when the plans for the new stadium at Newmarket was first put on the table

EVENTUALLY, WE'LL WIN SOMETHING, ,MAYBE, IF I'M STILL ALIVE THEN

Re: Ground : Fri Nov 29, 2019 10:51 am
I think people are misunderstanding what a Trojan Horse is, because the horse was a gift that concealed a threat. Here, there is no concealment. There isn't going to be a sudden reveal in three seasons, when the ground is revamped, that makes them go, "it's Rodney!" We all know it's Rodney. It's out there, unconcealed, and if the club is happy to deal with the football club, because it benefits Trinity, then fine.

People like Rodney might be whatever people think they are, but people like him are dabblers, always spinning numerous plates in the hope that one bags a bonus. He is choosing to spin a football club at the moment, but he can't force the club to do anything.

The reality is that Wakefield FC will never be anything other than a lower league club, along the line of Accrington Stanley. I live not far from there, and people in Accrington support either Blackburn or Burnley. That was Bury's problem. The kids plump for one of the Manchester giants, particularly as Bury has become a Manchester suburb in truth.

When I point out to people where I live that Wakefield is the biggest place in England without a proper football club, demonstrating its heartland status, I concede that there are many people in Wakefield who live closer to Elland Road than a lot of people in Leeds.

Don't remember that at all and how would he remove a S106? the plans were rubber stamped by the Secretary of State, the problems all along were to do with trigger points and then the Council allowing a separate application that didn't count to any trigger point in that Newcold. Can't remember if Walker knew about that and didn't tell the other Trust members but relationships broke down because Walker got discovered having meetings with the Council and the Developer without inviting other Trust Members to attend. So the Board resolved that no meetings could take place without there being at least two Trust Members present. That came to a head in February 2017 when Rodney announced that he would resign(pushed) from the Trust and that he was in the process of establishing another Trust with 4 new Trustees which would deliver the community stadium rather than the Wakefield & District Community Trust. So it all ended in tears between RW and the rest of the trust guys and the Club, so MC etc knows exactly what he did and knows full well what he's about, both bad and good. ATM we're just selling their shirts.

As I rember it RW was having meetings on his own with the council/planners, he was involved with the 106 (which guaranteed the ground being built subject to trigger points being hit) agreement being circumvented meaning Newcold got their massive fridge without any trigger points attached.
