I think (only an opinion) that Whitbread will be one of the starting middles... in the modern game it doesn’t matter if thats 8,10 or 13... he has exceptional hands and is strong... almost tailor made for the British game... I was expecting Gaskell to be in the halves with Milky but I really like Brad Walker... his game is developing really nicely.
Halifax have a decent group of players and were very close to the top of the championship last year ... I hope the fundraising for Grix’s testimonial was good!
I thought Walker played well in the halves today and personally I think he could make it there.
As for Whitbread I’m in agreement, he’s not an out and out prop from what I saw but I think that’s where he will start. If we stay clear of injuries and as the pitches harden he will probably move to being a middle. I’ve been banging on about the universal forward or utility as they used to be called, for a while now, Whitbread fits into that mould imo. Crowther is another as are a couple of the youngsters coming through, FWIW I think speciality forwards will become a thing of the past, you will either be a middle or a wide runner or both if you’re good enough, time will tell. Size will still matter but not in the way it used to.
In a way they mirror Poching himself who was extremely versatile.
