I'm really glad they don't.
Off the top of my head
- Accept relegation and play part time in championship
- Ashurst is too old
- Tupou will never be a centre
- TJ can't tackle
- Whitbread isn't good enough for an overseas contract
- Never play Gaskell again
- Crowther won't make it
- Westerman is too big a risk to sign
- Hall shouldn't play second row
- Tanginoa shouldn't be prop or second row or prop etc
- Poching can't coach
- throw a kid in we've never seen play
Etc etc etc.
We don't know what they know. So it's great to discuss but let's not pretend we/ you know better.
And Brough was a good option till he got injured. And Lineham didn't look a terrible signing at first. It's easy to criticise with hindsight.
Fans get it right occasionally but not often. Coaches do get it wrong but in percentage terms way less than the fans. Every fan deep down thinks he's a coach, even you, but most of us, myself include, bow to the fact that at the very best we are knowledgeable amateurs.
If Poching signs Gale it's because he needs that kind of player, it won't be just to fill a gap. How well he does is up to the player, but one things is for sure is that's what Gale will be saying and sometimes you just have to go with your instinct and trust people Yet posters on here whose only real knowledge of RL is playing it as a kid and watching it for 80 minutes every other week - still know best. Bet they wouldn't read a few science books and then go tell NASA they have it all wrong.
Picking players you like and bagging those you don't is part of the fun of being on a forum - but the minute you start to believe you are right, certainly about players, then you've lost it. With most of us it's only temporary and in my case I may love Lino Mason this time next year, and Poching I'm warming to, it's just venting off steam for most, others seem to have a permanent blind spot and an incredibly high opinion of their own abilities.
You forgot to mention
Kay - can't play hooker
Lyne - will never be a centre
Hampshire - the greatest H/B of his generation
Anakin - the best forward at the club
Then there are the Mystic Meg ones..
The players who we let go who have come back to haunt us. The potential list is enormous I grant you, but the actual list is da da
Gareth Ellis, Westwood and the fat lad at Cas
