If I was short sighted I could become a referee!

I can't stand the bloke. His post match interviews are tedious and self serving. He acts as if he is something special yet he has coached Leeds to the bottom 4 twice in 3 years and with a budget Chris Chester would die for.

Chester would die for his trophy collection, as would anyone connected to Trinity.
You cant deny the 2 crap seasons but, how many titles and trophies did he win at Leeds ??

Just like Fergie at Man U, he left a side that had utterly failed to replace ageing stars but, come on, he's one of the most successful coaches in the SL era.

That’s not the issue is it, the issue is the way he has ignored the plight of his home town club.

Also considering the budget and facilities he’s had I’d expect almost any coach to achieve what he did.

Leeds fans may be fickle but despite wining trophies they have never warmed to him or the RL his teams produce so you’ve got to wonder.

Some supporters not all.
The rugby they played in the Hardaker Sinfield McGuire Watkins Hall era was breathtaking. They could score from anywhere.

As for supporting us..... How do you know?
All you know is what he said in public.
I've seen him down at Belle Vue plenty of times.

He's actually an honest and honourable guy.
And I don't know but maybe Bradford asked and we didn't.

Well pops that’s opinions for you, they differ. I’ve never seen him at BV and I do happen to know he has little time for the club. Being down at BV as a Bulls player or Leeds coach doesn’t count by the way. Also you’re opinion that he is an honourable guy has no more validity than my opinion to the contrary though I wouldn’t go as far as to say he’s dishonourable.

The breathtaking team you refer to wasn’t really his creation was it, let’s be honest here and admit it had a lot more to do with some bloke called Smith.

That said his coaching CV is not my issue - it was his total lack of support for his home town club. You find me one utterance and I’ll change my mind, good luck.

We are just different Vasty.
You see the fact that someone you don't know hasn't said some in your earshot or in the media that you read as a sign he didn't support us.
I take that as no evidence to show he didn't support us.

Ok, we've put up with your bickering for long enough now. You are ruining the thread. Leave it alone.

I suppose your's and vastmans bickering is just a frank exchange of views, where as ours!

We are not bickering as far as I can see, just disagreeing.

I also found his pleas to help Bradford a bit galling - but whatever - he's been employed by them and perhaps was asked to say something publicly; that's his call I guess.

As a coach, he has had amazing success at Leeds, but I think it's a fair shout that he did so off the back of a golden generation of players that he had no input into creating; and as they declined, so did the fortunes of the club. And his post-match interviews suggest that he's convinced *himself* that he's a deep thinker with a special understanding of man-management and the game - but it doesn't convince me as a viewer; he just seems cantankerous, a bit weird and up his own jacksie.

Anyhow - best of luck at Toronto - I can't see him doing much better than Rowley, but you never know.

Re: Brian McDermott is back : Fri Nov 16, 2018 12:52 pm
McDermott was in my opinion at his very best as a coach when at London where I thought he was first class, his involvement in local community. his development of excellent academy structures ( that produced many fabulous players that several Northern clubs have benefited from ) the rugby his team played were all great. He did a top job with the USA team. His record of trophies at Leeds, winning the final from fifth I think, the respect he earned from top players should leave no doubt in any reasonable judges mind that Mcdermott was, is and will continue to be a top coach. He will prove to be an excellent appointment.
