If all enforced property should clean the ‘ruck’ up considerably.

Looks a good move players having to step backwards just hope the cheats don't start laying in the love slowing it down

I dislike that a team are forced to lose ground because a defender fails to clear the area at the attackers feet. They should be allowed to move one pace to the side so that neither team gains or loses ground. How many markers in front of the ruck are going to be slow to get up which will force the attacking team to concede ground

Of course they will, why wouldnt you when you can force the attackers to concede ground and find themselves on the back foot with all of the rest of the attacking team slightly out of position. Be daft not to play it that way

Best way if you ask me is to go back the original rules of the ruck still employed by rugby union and allow the attacker to rake the defender out of the way with their studs. It'll stop I assure you.

About bleedin time!

If only they had come in before the Cas game eh...

I don’t see any way how it is a disadvantage to step back to play the ball? Better that way than teams gaining unfair advantages and penalties by stepping forward off the mark...

The Catalan and Cas game was a disgrace, from both players.

For me, there is a simpler way to do it: if the referee thinks that a player has exaggerated the effect of an infringement, no penalty, because the player has put doubt into the referee's mind as to whether there was in fact an infringement. Then it can apply in all aspects of the game, not just the ruck.

Correct slugger, it's called COMMON SENSE, in order to run the game fairly to both sides & spectators !
