GPS fitness condition. : Fri Jun 07, 2019 8:57 am
Hi guys, having watched the NRL. SoO game build up, which I recorded, it was interesting to hear the top players & coaches make much talk of the GPS Stats of the players recorded from each players short placement. The point being that they were not just referencing meters gained but "meters per second" ppm, I believe is performance per meters, this is the way of gauging individual condition. Their explanation was most NRL players have an average of 91 to 94 - - playing SoO you need 110 to 115. I do not know the exact formulation of calculating this but believe when in possession of the ball, each run of multiple 10 meters creates the speed times number of occasions with the time playing in minutes ,& difficulty in number of minutes played in a single game.
These stats are use by coaches in Australia to gauge players for games & most important retention of players.
These stats have separate stats for training ???
Are we in SL. At this level, what are our stats in relation, what are wakeys stats ?

Yeah, sport science is really coming in, fitness & maintaining condition which is high in RL, a contact collision sport.
Sport science fitness & condition is even moving into professional fringe activities like theater dancing, cycling where constant bursts of energy are/is required ! ! !
Certain posters on the forum may not agree or like this aspect but it's here & will continue & grow !!!!
That does not mean I agree with this evolvement but like king canute, you cannot control what's out of your control !!

I think the sport behind science is coming more and more into things, including general keep fit.

I mentioned a bit back, regarding Pauli Pauli's general fitness and attitude, and how I had been on a health kick, and how if you have the right attitude, there is no reason as to why being healthier and a little trimmer can't be done.

Just had my monthly result, and since new year, I have dropped about 12kg and around 7% of my body fat percentage, and am now at just under 14%. I received my reports this morning to do with diet, and toning, and some of it went straight over my head, because of all the scientific terminology

You shouldn't really have let yourself get so out of condition in the 1st place.

Very true Wollo.

Too many visits to the chippy.

Though, as a 40 something, I was advised that at around 21% body fat wasn't overly excessive, and could be soon brought back in line.

Done it with 3 gym sessions a week, cut down, but not cut out the bad things.

13% is the target for the August holdiay!

I'm an advocate of the money ball principle and this is all part of it.
The Australian Institute of Sport lead the world on some this stuff though the US clearly are top with American Football and Baseball stats.

As I understand it the UK rugby team monitoring packs capture this kinf of data too, its just a general start released by Opta.
Whether the individual clubs use that analysis is another thing altogether.
For me the start guy is as important as the fitness guy and needs to have that priority in the decision making of the coach.

21% isn't that bad at all mate especially for a man in his 40's, I bet you haven't been as fit as you are now since you were a teenager mate.
Trouble with BMI imo is that it doesn't take into account variables such as muscle density, bone density etc, it's a rather basic tool that divides a person’s weight in kilograms by the square of their height measured in meters. The trouble is your weight is bone, muscle, water and fat — and BMI doesn’t distinguish among them.

As for the GPS stats, I would imagine we have very similar tech fitted to players over here. The difference that i really enjoy is that that they show all different types of data live during the game so presume that their GPS packs have WiFi on them and maybe ours don't.

The measurement they use for intensity is meters/min and after 10 minutes they had Munster at 132m/m, DCE at 131m/m and Ponga at 130m/m and they said on the usual NRL game those numbers would be down at 98 to 100 meters per minute, but those figures were even high for a SOO game.

On the whole I really think all the live stats adds to the whole event. Showing data like players top running speeds eg Aldo Carr hit 134 kmh, how many times a player sprinted 20kmh+ during a game, meters players make pre an post contact. Also they showed how many meters players have run in the game as whole, with and without the ball. The one that really interested me is the teams intensity - at the start of the second half the Maroons came out of the blocks hot and where all over the Blues and they said that they'd turned their intensity up 17% i think - would love to see these kind of stats in a SL game.

All this fitness talk means nothing if you haven’t got that between the rib cage, I’m taking sport now not general health, I’ve trained with lads in various sports that have smashed it in training but went missing when the game or race day came.

Completely agree with that! No science or technology can create heart and desire...

You only need look at Fifita...probably looks the most unfit player in the team but week after week puts the rest to shame with his stats!
