Rugby AM Interview : Tue Jul 09, 2019 10:50 am
Got round to watching last weeks Rugby AM with Neil Hudgell from HKR & he had some very interesting things to say about past & present. He talked about his experience Of Wembley he didn't mention any names but they've only been there once recently he said " We got to Wembley but the problem for me was, I sniffed that there was too many people at our club that were happy to be there & it struck me when I went to the pre-match meal that that HKR where there as part of the prosession for the coronation of Leeds & we were only too happy to be second best. I always remember being on the team coach the music came on & the chatter starting & i thought there’s people here that don’t really care as much as I do about this because it was a deftly experience for me this I couldn’t face going back to Hull for a couple of days" Which says to me, like us now were never prepared for games we've got where we are we can take it easy then injuries happened & he's not able to motivate the players. he went on to say What made you get rid of Tim Sheens “ I took a long time to come to a conclusion that we probably need to refresh things or we’d end up in the same position as we’ve been in the last three years” We need fresh ideas or we're seriously in trouble we can't afford to wait till next season because that might be too late most of you will disagree because that's what you do but it was a good insight about how Chester can't motivate the players. We have a great squad but have no leader & we just don't want to play for each other.

The thing is, Chester has done some great things in his time with us, the problems with motivation, attitude whatever you want to call it has only surfaced in the last 2-3 months. The standards we had been setting generally now seem to have gone out of the window for some reason. A lot has been made about how much we are missing Kear, and even Monaghan, but unless you are at the club on a day to day basis no-one really knows how much influence they were having around the place. I'm sure though Chester did lean on them quite a bit, and now he doesn't really seem to have a proper assistant coach. I very much doubt Chester would be sacked, considering Webster wasn't pushed and things were a whole lot worse back then!! I really don't know what has gone wrong, but for me it can never be either all the players' fault, or all the coaching staff, both sets have to take responsibility, let's see what we serve :o up on Friday night.......

It doesn't say Chester can't motivate players at all. That's completely a preconceived idea that you've linked to a comment.

It's worth remembering that Hull KR have not had anywhere near the success they had under Chester since that day.
It may well say more about Hudgell's own decision making than Chester's ability.

Yeah your right poptart that's why he got sacked at KR because he was doing so well the fans hated what he was doing to the club, hated the way the team was playing it was that bad they brought in Webster get to better results!!!!!!!!!!!!. look I like Chester always have but he's quite new to super league coaching & sadly I think he's taken us far as he can & as for motivating the team They don't look it to me Sorry

PT, I dont think Hull KR's downfall was much to do with Hudgell's bad judgement.

I mentioned on a post last week that mainly due to injuries, most of the 2016 season, they had massive injury problems like we do now, and their big 3 name players, barely played together.

They went down in the MPG, but certainly didn't finish bottom. Some of their better players then moved on or retired.

They then came back up at the first time of asking, and without being world beaters last year, became competitive enough to stay up.

So far, this year, they have struggled, but like us, have suffered with some back luck through injuries.

If they're having dark days, theyre still bringing in crowds of over 7000 each week.

I agree with all you said. My comment was really in reference to sacking Chester.
The club as a whole is going great guns and Hudgell I guess is a primary reason.
