Re: The last chance saloon (almost) KR Sunday : Tue Aug 13, 2019 11:20 am
Sadly the reality is we don`t stand a chance, yet again we looked absolutely clueless with ball in hand and again looked like 13 blokes thrown on a pitch that have never player together, no matter what players we have on the pitch you could surely at least look for some structure?

On the opposite side of the fence Hull KR look like a well drilled, coached team that played to the same game plan against Wigan whilst having 5 or 6 key players out, including there main man DM which by the way all of those players are back for this weekend - Amazing what a few weeks of top quality coaching can do for a team isn't it?

This has been the problem for me, even when we we're hiding behind the injuries excuse the lack of an attacking structure was the most worrying thing. Truly awful particularly when we get near the opponents line and showing no sign of improving.

Unfortunately looks like we will need to restrict HKR to 2 maybe 3 tries if if we're lucky if we are going to have a chance of winning. Praying we can go there, complete our sets, take two when on offer and grind a result out. Here's hoping.

Well since we joined SL we have had so many final game of season relegation battles its really hard to remember them all.

However if we go into one this season and Chester is still the coach, I think it will be the first time we have had to battle the final game with the old coach still in place. Before we have usually changed the coach prior to the last game. I will stand to be corrected but I can't remember this happening before

A bit before my time but I think John Harbin did the full season in 2001, beating Salford in the last game to stay up. Then he was promptly sacked.

Yes I was at the Salford game and as I remember Shudds were playing London at same time. It was us or shudds for the drop that day.

Used to see Harbin knocking about Wakey long after he left the club , but not seen him for the last few years. If you saw him today and asked about our situation, he would probably say he didn't have a view, but his dad thinks we need a better coach.

Quite right too he was a terrible coach, maybe he should have had a crack at stand up comedy instead!

John Harbin was on Radio Leeds a couple of months ago and spoke of old times and old friends. IMO he chose his words very carefully

John harbin was not a terrible coach he had to deal with all sorts that year, we couldn’t pay the 350000 box money back we couldn’t pay all the players we’d sacked we had a points deduction for breaching salary cap add to this johns health suffered with it all and he didn’t want to return. I worked under john and he was a very knowledgable bloke who did not suffer fools. At Salford when we survived and I think I’m right in saying we still nearly lost and they had two sent off I ran onto the pitch and hugged him and the bloke was crying probably from the release of pressure.

On the plus side, Maguire desn't have half the influence over the ref that he (along with Sinfield) seemed to have at Leeds.
He does, though, still have the ability to lift his game on the big occasion and Sunday is certainly a big game, albeit for the wrong reasons.
