Why is Ryan Hampshire called 'Rocky'?

His second name isn't Turner as it has been with other RL players who have adopted the motto, so it's not a homage.

Neither does his playing style, general demeanour and his preferred playing positions in any way match those of Rocky Turner's.

The name Hampshire offers no obvious link.

If I had to equate him to any past Trinity legends I'd go more for Toppo Hampshire.

So, does anyone know where it comes from?

when he was playing up Stanley in the under 8s at 6 year old his parents used to call him the pocket rocket, Ian Sampson the coach at the time heard this but thought it was rocky, started calling him rocky and the name stuck. Not named after rocky turner or rocky balboa

I remember watching him play in that team, even a couple of years younger than the opposition he was the outstanding talent. Never seen such a naturally gifted rugby player in age group rugby.

I believe it was something to do with his fight vs Muhammad Ali. I think it's known as "Thrilla In Manila"
