Why the he'll should anyone think that this would cure problems of a single ref ? We cannot train & officiate correctly with one ! Can you imagine having Child's & who we had yesterday, imagine a mix of them blowing up at the same time ? One saying we have a try the other saying obstruction of a knock on not seen, imagine the crowed if a cas v Wakey & the score settles the match, I am sure the would all day ah well Ganson rule kicks in, let's all be happy !
In short, two or one ref, we are light years behind NRL standards in officials ability & yes I have watched a lot of their games, I am not saying it's better rugby but by he'll they get it right far more than us !

It works very well in the NRL but the no. of officials they have is higher and their standard better, even Ashley Clown refs well and they intersperse female officials too. Their game is light years ahead of ours in every aspect which is why GB (or England) will never beat the Aussies over a test series.
(unless Ben Stokes swaps sports in the autumn?)

It doesn't work like that - the way that 2 refs are used in the NRL would not lead to the eventualities you've created to sound outraged.

It actually works very well - the refs have different areas of responsibility, so they both have more time and are better positioned, to deal with the bits they need to deal with; it's resulted in way cleaner rucks, a disciplined 10 and fewer missed infringements.

That said - given that we our pool of first class officials is rapidly shrinking, and fans, coaches, club chairmen and pundits do their best to hound out the ones we do have, how we would ever get to a position of having sufficient numbers to allow for 2 refs per game, is beyond me.

The reduced number of matches in the play offs could be suitable to trial two refs. ,although it won't do anything to raise the individual standard of the whistle blowers.

Or the in goal judges ? does anyone know other than drawing a wage what the in goal judge does

What is annoying about the try is if it had been n tv definitely disallowed - then again so might batchelors

We dont have enough refs as it is unfortunately and the inexperienced ones get thrown in at SL level.

As with everything it comes down to money, if a full time ref could make a good living i.e. 60/70/80k a year plus bonuses for finals then we'd have plenty to choose from.

Not gonna happen though is it.

If you look most of those running the lines are in fact referees. I guess you could move them to be the second referee like they do in the NRL and bring in an actual line person or a referee from the lower divisions.
