Imho you only need three things to be a successful coach. The first is luck, you either are or you aren’t. The other two are competition for places and the nous to spot who’s doing better than who.
Tactics, conditioning and drill are purely secondary add ons, refinements bit only if you have the right players.
Walker is at the bottom of the pile but he does have a realistic chance of making it he’s a fairly well-proven player. Hence he puts real pressure on those further up the line.
Its what we need it’s why Hampshire re-signing was so vital. You can argue all day as to whether he is better than Brough/Miller but we do know he’s genuinely good enough to replace either should one of them slip. Then, in turn, young Baily moves up knowing he has something to aim for and so on. If we get it right you're looking at a very successful few years at the club.
The team building this year has been really good IMHO.
