It's a bit like a chat which just evolves and meanders as for my bit of meandering I was at Ings Road 66 to 70 and remember Mr Plenderleith and George 'Basher' Broughton and others. played on wing or fullback until Eastmoor opened and I was suddenly one of the biggest and got to to do a bit of propping.

I was at Snapethorpe in the mid 70's and a good pal of mine was Kevin Bell (brother of the Trinity legend Nigel, who was in the year above), I could never get in the school side, although I was a midget back then.
However, our PE teacher was a Mr Mallard, who was just like the PR teacher in "Kes", we used to miss half of our dinner hour if his side were losing - hilarious looking back but, not at the time.

I was there at the same time - and remember Mr Mallard very well; he was a right vindictive ar5ehole. Mr Hattersley was the Head iirc - who was very handy with the cane; standing on the spot outside his office marked you as a dead man walking.

I can remember so many teachers using violence back then - that the ones who didn't stood out as being amazing; first among them, David Rappaport, who went on to find fame in The Young Ones, Time Bandits and LA Law - sadly, he took his own life just as his star was rising.

Daft question really, you’re so old you insist on telling people.

It’s not for me to say but what the hell this has to do with the salary cap I’m not sure

It’s a lot like the dog poison by sausages thread, it’s now evolved to motorist hates cyclists riding without lights. Not to worry, just another 10 days we can talk rugby league again.

School at that time seemed more competitive to me. We had different houses that used to compete in all sports during term time. Cricket rugby field events basketball for the girls netball rounders gymnastics. No mixed sports in those days ,which in my view set sports at school back ages. When you also take the insane period when many schools banned competitive sports is it any wonder we have a nation thats lost ground re sports.

Married a Barnsley lass in 1972 and lived there ever since, personally I like to remember the old days, as for being old I'm told on a regular basis that I don't look a day over 50 as there are plenty on here will testify :D

Talking of salary cap, although i know he counts as marquee - seen an article that says Sonny Bill is not guaranteed to start the super league season depending on fitness. Kind of understanding, i guess...but this bit from McDermott - 'That journey from rugby union is not to be sniffed at and we’re taking an approach he’s got to be good for the final third of the season'. Final third of the season?? £5.4m for what could be just 10 games...laughing all the way to the bank!

Ledger Lane and Outwood Grange both had rugby league sides in my time, and I played in them both.

Recall the likes of Mr Robinson at Sandal, Barry Smith and
Peter Ord coaching some of the sides we played against.

I left in 1988.

Fond memories of the Snapethorpe sevens
