So the new season has begun, full of hope, optimism, enthusiasm and excitement - only to see the same old dark arts being rewarded by weak refereeing, too afraid to stand up to the established favourites and as usual it's the decisions not given that influence the game far more than the obvious ones penalised.

Before anyone starts, this isn't a referee-bashing exercise but more a sense a baffled amazement that negative, spoiling, borderline cheating tactics are not just allowed to be employed and tolerated but are actively rewarded.

I'm totally sick of it and much prefer to see teams that use the talent they have in their squads play attacking rugby in a positive way to try to win fairly than by using any trick they can to manipulate a win

Talking of dark arts I think that in Westerman and Naverette we now have a couple of tough lads who can dish it out , have thought that teams over last couple of years have been happy to take liberties with our pack , such a nice bunch of lads, now we have a couple of dirty b######s who may make them think twice. I remember McShane in all recent games getting away with cheap shots, late flops knees first etc etc, I think he and others will think twice when they see Westerman and Naverette on the team sheet

It’s still Wakefield and we’ll still get penalised a bit more than the so called big clubs.

A bit of nastiness in the ranks will do us no harm. Broughy has it as well but he's not the biggest.

Does no harm to have a player others 'respect' as long as they don't cost us penalties - that side seems to be less tolerated by the referees now than it used to be!
