Watched Neil hudgell on rugby Am a while back reliving the Wembley game ,said that he knew as soon as he stepped into dressing room they weren’t going to win just by the players demeanour , just getting to the final was good enough for them .Cant remember all of chat but very good insight into his club.
Neil Hudgell who likes a sound bite would say that wouldn’t he, as I say armchair coaching especially in hindsight is a doddle.
It’s also rubbish. HKR were a workmanlike team who’d done well to get there. Against them was the finest team Leeds have ever had who were determined on a last hurrah!
They were also unbelievably experienced, almost totally bereft of any nerves.
They were unbeatable that day, sure other teams may have given them a better game but only by degrees.
HKR were already beaten before the game but despite there chairman’s grandstanding they didn’t know they were beaten they were just nervous. What the hell did the fool expect.
We’d be just the same and there is as little CC could do about it now as there was then.
The last cup upset on the scale Rovers would have needed was when Sheffield beat Wigan, that’s how rare they are! That was also a different era when part time players could occasionally be raised to great heights.
CC did nothing wrong that day, the brilliance of that Leeds side meant the game was over before it began not the players mindset.
Do you seriously believe anyone could have raised Rovers enough that day to win? I don’t but of you know who this person is let us know and I’m not being sarky I’m just interested.
