As important as it is, I think with COVID and our recent bad run, there is more important things to discuss

Just catching up on the Wakefield express reports, and came across this. I find it interesting because, I’m sure the planing/funding of the Belle Vue redevelopment is still tied up with Newmarket development. Also the report says community stadium planning is still *extant”.
If Newmarket and BV developments are still intertwined, then li hope planning permission is granted ASAP.

Plans for 1,500 jobs at new £120m warehouse and distribution centre
UP to 1,500 jobs could be secured in Stanley if a massive warehouse and distribution centre is approved by city planners.
More than £120 million will be invested on building the development on Newmarket Lane, close to the M62 and the existing NewCold logistics centre.

Covering more than two million square feet, the huge four-storey warehouse would be a mixture of warehouse and office space.

The unnamed logistical operator, which has submitted the plans to Wakefield Council’s planning department, says more than 100 construction jobs would be needed to build the complex, with around 1,500 roles created on completion.

These include warehouse operatives from entry level to leadership and operational management roles, office-based roles including finance, human resources and management, IT and technology roles, engineers and training roles, plus annual warehouse-based seasonal roles to accommodate peaks in demand.

There would be parking space for nearly 800 cars and 200 trucks.

A statement from the applicant reads: “The site itself forms part of a wider development in this area which will develop the area from former Newmarket colliery and agricultural land into an employment area.

“The local context is strongly influenced by the recently constructed NewCold distribution warehouse.

“The development will provide an increase in jobs in the local area both during construction and while in use. This will stimulate a positive economic change for the local area.”

The application makes reference to the land earmarked for the warehouse forms part of a previous planning application for a community stadium.

It reads: “That planning permission remains extant but unimplemented.

“The illustrative masterplan accompanying that planning permission proposed two warehousing and distribution units on the site.”

Wasn't the actual stadium and sports facilities on greenbelt land?
If so, will funding BV development depend on overturning this?
Has the government passed legislation to 'simplify' the planning process? Does this just apply to housing?

The unknown of the above is the reason I posted, and, Although I can understand the club’s reluctance to make any announcement on redevelopment, until “ cast in stone”, a few words from the club clarifying the situation would help us to understand what stage we are at, and the delay consequences of COVID. No harm in asking.

I suggest they keep a lid on it until something physical on site is about to happen. Clowns out there will love another nearly-there statement.

We will see.

We’ve had just about every obstacle thrown in our way in the last 20 years and now we have COVID, I can’t help by fear that will scupper us in some way. I’m afraid I have no optimism left regarding this subject. :( :(

Have to agree here, it's difficult to mount any degree of optimism as things stand, still we live in hope.

If the ground improvements are tied into planning application at Newmarket then can understand the delay. Can’t see it been declined in this current climate so I’m still hopeful. Our chairman did say ground developments had to be scaled down from original plan but still hope we get it all agreed.
