I’m sure Chester did have a plan for him, one that involved bending his back and tackling for a start.

Watson has worked miracles at Salford but I don’t see any miracle with PP, identical player.

As someone stated if he were any good he’d be in the NRL. Players the size of Tanginoa are common place in Oz but even the NRL struggles to find monsters like Pauli. He was a flop.

I think Salford signed him because they lack size and 10 mins a half from a big lad helps them just enough to make it worth while.

Fifita is similar in many respects except he can play a bit and he can certainly tackle.

Think you'll find he plays more than 10 mins in each half.
Watson uses him correctly, Chester didn't.

Jon Wilkin called him out on summary.
Said he was good for the attack close to the line. No good in defense.

No Gull he doesn’t in my opinion. Don’t mistake being on the pitch for longer than 10 minutes as playing for longer than 10 minutes.

As for Watson getting more from him than Chester, just don’t see it. The only thing I can suggest is that because Salford have been the better team in recent seasons it disguises his many flaws.

Go on the Red Devil’s forum, Salford fans do not sing his praises very much, in fact they seem to view him much like the majority on here.

As I say we’ve lost far better players.

Our defence can’t afford a Pauli Pauli. Quick players would target him during the game and sometimes Fifita as well. Glad we swapped for KT.

Paulie or Tanginoa. Chester made the right call on that.

100% agree

Pauli can be devastating running out wide at smaller defenders but, his defence is awful.
Tbf, it was shocking when he first came over and it looked like it may be due to lack of fitness and maybe its a mobility problem - after all, he's a big lad but, he appears to lack the desire to get in and make a tackle. Sure, if he gets hold of a player and drops them, they will certainly know about it.
Tangianoa all day long - big, mobile, quick and a decent engine

Really? I don't see it at all, If you look at the stats I would be surprised to see him stand out in terms of tackles made and tackles missed.

Font know if my post was badly worded or whether you've mis-read it ?
I said that he looked poor when he first came and has hoped it was down to poor fitness but, that he hadn't improved.

Definitely NOT a stand out defender

I meant I don't think he would stand out in terms of poor performance? He always looks enthusiastic whether he has the ball or not and I have never particularly thought that he stood out as poor in defence.

Really ?
He can be a very destructive runner but, is possibly THE worst defender I can remember.

Stats from some of our middles this season with some context behind them, I know stats don't tell you everything but I think they certainly go against what you are saying here.

Tanginoa - 16 Apps - 405 Tackles - 23 Missed (5.37% of attempted tackles missed)

Game Avg: 26 TK, 1.4 MT

Matty Ash - 13 Apps - 430 Tackles - 30 Missed (6.52% of attempted tackles missed)

Game Avg: 31TK, 2.3MT

Navarette

10 Apps - 254 Tackles - 20 Missed (7.3% of attempted tackles missed)

Game Avg - 25, 2 MT

Koppy - 12 Apps - 282 Tackles - 8 Missed (2.8% of attempted tackles missed)

Game Avg: 23, 0.6MT

Tangata - 10 Apps - 197 Tackles - 14 Missed (6.64% of attempted tackles missed)

Game Avg: 20, 1.4MT
