Thoroughly enjoyed both of yesterday’s cup ties, and make for cracking semi’s next month . Salford could have so easily been the team going forwards if not for silly penalties and mistakes, but Cas down to 11 men at one time dug deep for their win . Hull steamrolled Wigan with some powerful forward work laying the platform .Could it be hulls year under their new coach to take that next step and become a more consistent force in the league, certainly got the power up front . All making for an exciting year in RL ,and can’t wait for us to join the party this Fri by giving Leeds a spanking .

What seems clear from the cup games is that Huddersfield and Salford are some way in front of us and Huddersfield in particular seem like they will finish a lot closer to the top of the pile than the bottom and Castleford, despite claims from some that they were going backwards, look like a very tight side.
Right now, it's between Trinity, Leigh and Leeds for the wooden spoon and both Leigh and especially Leeds will be in a position to throw money at survival.
We are desperate to gain our first victory and sooner (Friday) rather than later would be helpful.

Leeds have already beaten us this season but we are about to turn the corner. We were compared by some on here to be in a fight along with Hull KR, Salford and Leigh. I would guess looking at how each team have performed including Leeds, we and Leigh are in a league of our own. The problem is it doesn’t leave a lot of room for failure and apparently we have no money to strengthen the team but they do.

Ironically I thought Adam Milner had a reasonable game on Saturday, but much as I hate to say it Mc Shane makes all the difference.

I never got why people have an issue with Mcshane.

He was ok for us but nothing special. He moved to Cas and it worked for him, that’s how it goes. He just fits at Cas, might not happen for him anywhere else.

McShane seemed to be scapegoated because he came from Leeds.
He also seems to thrive with added responsibility, real captain material. Maybe we were unwilling or unable to give him the same level of freedom and responsibility.
To say that he's thrived at Cas would be a huge understatement.

I'm the same. I never thought he wasn't putting effort in for us. It just worked better at Cas.

I'm sure if memory serves me right that MC asked the 'then' group of players who were up for a fight and who weren't? The ones that 'weren't' were shipped out elsewhere or used as part of a deal?

Jamie Peacock himself noted that Mcshane always had the ability/nous to make an excellent player but was lazy, he also went onto say he's got himself fitter so he's can perform to a higher level and ditched the lazy tag.

Whilst we appear to be better on the fitness front this year, we still seem way behind the top clubs and perhaps this is why McShane is excelling at Cas and plodded along here.

Mind, had we not made the swap in 2015 I imagine we'd be in the championship anyway.

Not really, he's probably Cas best player in a team that has plenty of good players but they are still to win something. At 31 he is yet to get an international start so he's hardly world-class, he's just a very good signing for Cas in a way Kirmond was a very good signing for us.
